What Bandmember Are You?
Def Jam Recordings is seeking a Publicity Director with ideally 5 years of experience. This individual should also ideally have broad musical interest across genres with a particular focus on urban and pop. The position requires a self-starter who can work both independently and within a team environment. Working under the EVP of Media & Artist Relations, the candidate will be involved in all aspects of PR campaigns for releases on Def Jam Recordings, G.O.O.D. Music and more.
• Develop and manage strategic, engaging and attention-grabbing multi-platform PR campaigns for a range of artists for assigned roster of artist.
• Develop and continue to grow your existing connections with multi-platform media groups and providers, print and online journalists, influencers, etc.
• Pitch and secure national and regional exposure for emerging and high-profile artists via print, TV and online media
• Manage and grow high level contacts at all music-relevant print publications, influential blogs, sites and bookers.
• Produce a weekly reports for each frontline act on the label for internal use and artist management.
• Research and develop ideas for content generation, as well as seeding and submission of the content to relevant sources.
• Implement grassroots media and development campaigns for artists entering market place and/or in early career phase
• Write, create and distribute pitch letters, press releases, and media rollout campaigns
• Manage artists’ schedules and interviews; organized press tours for new album releases and tour launches
• Manage budget allocation and supervise vendor payment and invoicing for all publicity related costs
• Team player
• Coordinate special events including album release parties and showcases.
• Manage guest lists for high-profile events; supervise red carpet arrivals at major press events including award shows and more.
• Experience managing multiple short- and long-term plans simultaneously
• How You Will Rock Your Role:
• Bachelor's Degree in Communications, English, Public Relations or Marketing, preferred
• 5 years of experience in music PR
• Must have excellent written skills including bios, press releases, pitch letters
• Strong track record on working with top tier press and established relationships with all media types – TV bookers, National Media, Consumer and Music Magazines, Dailies, Weeklies, Key Online, Bloggers, tastemakers
• Experience with tour press, press days/junkets, on-site media/red carpet events
• Event management and crisis management
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including: PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Word
• Strong communication abilities with the ability to write and convey media strategy plans/efforts to executives and management
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, including adaptability, personal effectiveness, and the ability to establish quick rapport
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills a must, as is the ability to juggle many tasks at one time and change gears quickly
• Must be highly self-motivated and the ability to thrive independently in a flexible, fast-paced team environment
• Publicity driven with a keen sense of news and trends
• Excellent social media skills
• Experience managing multiple short- and long-term plans simultaneously
• Exceptional judgment when working with team members, client contacts and vendors
