The A Side: A Day in The Life
Merchandise and e-commerce are becoming a fundamental of music culture. For artists, it’s a way to develop and further express their brand and for fans, it’s another way to connect with an artist and the culture they represent.
This is a newly created role which has responsibility to develop and deliver merchandise designs and strategies for UMUK artists.
Working closely with our labels commercial and central ecommerce and procurement teams you will design merchandise ranges and oversee creative merch projects all closely informed by store data and wider fashion and streetwear trends. To support you with this, you will also manage a network of designers to give you design support across these projects.
Candidates must be highly focused, with a proven track record of using their design skills to deliver innovative creative designs and campaigns that match the creativity and innovation of UMUK roster of artists.
In this role the successful candidate will:
• Design, develop and execute design concept presentations under the direction of UMUK labels and artists
• Manage creative briefs with network of designers and to deliver merchandise designs across a range of UMUK artists
• Coordinate and manage the submission of external artwork and work on revisions, re-comps and formatting of artwork from a network of designs and freelancers
• Work and communicate with eCommerce team on campaign planning of merchandise drops to drive artist and Iabel eCommerce goals
• Develop ideas from concept visuals through to finished artwork and create original art for merchandise for labels and artists awork creatively with supplied art
• Work with artwork to ensure timely including delivery of graphic files to printers
• Work and present design concept presentations for UMUK labels
• Creating of Style and Mood Boards and manages with client/artist research and development gathering of assets and inspiration
• Liaise with in-house production team, suppliers and review sampling to ensure quality
• Work with store insights and analytics to leverage sales and audience data to inform creative design and develop ‘always on’ merchandising strategies
• Develop seasonal merch calendars to guide store planning
• Work closely with our Head of Procurement on a central design schedule, production schedule and daily priority list to establish realistic release dates based on product type and production timelines
• Managing approval tracker docs to assist and managing the approval of samples
• Create and manage an in-house archive of artwork assets, photographers details and image rights
• Ensure product viability and cost effectiveness of product at all times
• When required liaise with garment manufacturers and distribution
• Identify new product ranges from catalogue merchandising to monetise the assets of artist/Label/RO across all label
• Work with the Label/RO Digital and Marketing departments/contacts to ensure designs and merch ranges feature prominently in lookbook shoots and videos
• Be across product trends and developments across e-Commerce, particularly with regard to other online retailers and competitors
• Manage UKUK POD business with partners as this channel develops.
The B Side: Skills & Experience
Necessary
• 3 years’ experience managing creative and/or eCommerce campaigns from ideation to execution, preferably in music or fashion/retail
• Demonstrable experience of art working and design within a merchandising or product management role within clothing / accessories and preferably involving music
• Knowledge of UK online fashion landscape and an understanding of differing consumer profiles and trends
• Ability to create original designs appropriately across a range of styles
• Knowledge of typical product blanks and styles
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines
• Ability to multitask & prioritise and project manage multiple creative projects and campaigns
• Good presentation skills and an established track record of effectively communicating design presenters to clients
• Understanding of brand differentiation across artists and music genres
• Deep understanding of eCommerce, specifically trends and best practices as they apply to the fan to artist relationship
• Collaborative and supportive, works well autonomously and as part of a team
• Ability to liaise with multiple internal stakeholders and third parties, initiate and fulfil projects in a proactive manner
• Genuine interest in music and music industry
• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), presentation packages (Powerpoint / Keynote) and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and project management tools
• Good knowledge of visualising garment designs using Photoshop and Illustrator and knowledge of preparation of artwork for prints
• An interest in consumer insight and the impact on product offerings
• Creative flair, with confidence to share ideas and awareness and interest in a variety of fashion and ''Music'' fashion trends
• Flexible, courteous, friendly and positive approach
Desirable
• Experience of merchandising within music industry structure
• Experience of eComm in a fashion brand setting
• Experience/knowledge of record label process
• Bring to the role a range of music merchandise design contacts
• Knowledge of UK / US online retail landscape as it relates to merchandise design and understanding of differing consumer profiles
• Passion for music merchandise and a good knowledge of high street fashion and trends
• Bachelor’s degree in design, fashion/retail, marketing, creative, or a related field
• Network of merchandise printers and licensing partners
• Track record of using data and analytics to make informed decisions on product designs
