Description
Universal Publishing Production Music, a unit of UMG, is one of the world’s most esteemed original music, audio branding and music library companies, is looking for an in-house Contract Administrator/ Paralegal in Santa Monica, CA. The UPPM Contract Administrator/Paralegal position will provide contract administration and paralegal support to UPPM’s three North American production music companies (KillerTracks, FirstCom and Elias Music)
Job Functions:
Provide contract administration and paralegal support to UPPM’s North American based music companies including:
• Review and summarize contracts
• Draft standard form agreements and other legal documents
• Create contracts and license agreements in adherence to turnaround guidelines and client requirements
• Work with the UPPM Director of Administration & Operations on attaining legalese change approvals and any necessary agreement language modifications
• Work with Account Executives, Clients, Business Affairs representatives, and internal staff on modifications and approvals for agreements
• Type and revise agreements, charts, memoranda, correspondence and other documents
• Draft and send letters and other routine correspondence
• Maintain an organized and up-to-date filing system for litigations and corporate matters
• Create physical and electronic files; search and retrieve files on an ongoing basis
• Assist with a comprehensive monthly report of all legal matters affecting the company, including calculating legal fees and liaising with other attorneys and Business Affairs for updates
• Research claims asserted against company
• Support the policing of piracy and infringement by monitoring the Internet for unauthorized exploitation, drafting Cease and Desist letters, and providing evidence of copyright ownership, including collecting chain of title documentation
• Attend and actively participate in meetings as requested
Job Requirements:
Skills/Abilities:
• Knowledge of music industry/licensing or production industry a plus
• Exceptional organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and other systems as necessary
• Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and be proficient with the company’s software programs utilized in an office and sales environment, including but not limited to: Microsoft Word, MS Dynamics CRM, Excel, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat
• Strong customer-focused aptitude with a polite and courteous manner
• Possess the ability to work in a fast-paced collaborative and creative environment
• Superior work ethic and a dynamic, positive attitude
Experience:
• 5 years working in capacity involving the drafting and processing of legal contracts
• Experience working in the Entertainment industry and/or in Publishing is a plus
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Valid Paralegal certification through and accredited association
