Description
Universal Music Group seeks a highly qualified attorney for the position of Associate Director in its Business & Legal Affairs department. Reporting to the SVP of Content Protection in New York, this key resource will provide legal advice, counsel and representation in connection with the negotiation, drafting and management of agreements for a broad range of information technology-related commercial transactions.
How you’ll CREATE:
• Provide targeted legal advice/support to all UMG corporate business units and individual labels, both domestic and global, with regards to the marketing, sale, distribution, and protection of music and other media assets.
• Work closely with corporate executives, business unit leaders, cross-functional teams, internal/external counsel, and a wide variety vendors and service providers.
Bring your VIBE:
• At least 1-2 years of music experience, in-house or at a firm, highly preferred.
• Strong preference is for a lawyer with current/significant experience handling a high-volume workload with strong, working knowledge of the commercial/enterprise IT/technology space.
• Knowledge of anti-piracy issues in the digital landscape.
• Ability to handle high-pressure confidential situations and think on your feet.
• Subject matter expertise required in intellectual property, general corporate law, information security, data privacy, and compliance.
• Ability to conduct risk assessments and provide legal guidance to key stakeholders and global colleagues.
• Self-starter with a strong interest in copyright and trademark law is it pertains to the music industry.
• Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to handle requests from multiple stakeholders inside and outside the company.
• Experience managing and training teams for project-based initiatives
• Willingness to work within a collaborative team environment as well as individually
• J.D. required, New York bar passage preferred
