Job Description
Twentieth Century Fox Television/Fox 21 TV Studios is looking for a television legal affairs executive for the studio's high volume television productions (animation and live action, including the studio's music based series) domestically and internationally for primarily network broadcast, cable and streaming services. The ideal candidate will have significant legal affairs experience in television production and development, including the drafting and negotiation of development and production-related agreements and the clearance of television series. Knowledge of music issues is a plus.
This position will report to the Executive Vice President, Legal Affairs.
Key Responsibilities Include
• Draft and negotiate a high volume of television development and acquisition agreements, including literary rights agreements, overall agreements, and recurring actor agreements.
• Draft and negotiate a high volume of television production and post-production agreements, including production services agreements, location agreements, lease agreements, visual effects agreements, footage license agreements and main title agreements.
• Review and analyze scripts for potential legal clearance issues.
• Complex rights and chain of title analysis.
• Advise on legal issues in the areas of intellectual property law and guild agreements.
• Review and analyze audit participation claims and handle finalization of such claims.
• Analyze contracts in response to business questions and provide information as necessary, including music issues and soundtrack albums.
• Provide ongoing legal advice on strategic and complex matters around production, clearance and other issues.
• Provide legal advice regarding marketing and promotional activities.
• Supervise and train junior attorneys.
• Supervise outside counsel (immigration, etc.) as and when needed.
• Take the lead on review and negotiation of agreements with the studio's outside vendor for below-the line payroll services on all series on behalf of Twentieth Century Fox Television and Fox 21 Television Studios.
• Take the lead on review and negotiation of agreements with the studio's outside vendor for production equipment rentals on all series on behalf of Twentieth Century Fox Television, Fox 21 Television Studios, FX, and Fox Studio Operations.
• Take the lead on any other agreements for various departments of the studio (e.g., Publicity events).
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will possess at least 10 years of experience directly related to the development and production of scripted series at a television production company. Legal music experience is a plus.
Ability to handle complex series, including music-based series. Should be comfortable analyzing issues of
copyright, right of publicity and other intellectual property issues, labor issues, and risk management issues. Willing to tackle matters outside area of expertise. Detailed oriented, excellent drafting and negotiating skills, strong communication skills, ability to work under deadlines, and creative problem-solving abilities. Ability to develop excellent working relationships with personnel on the productions. Strong work ethic.
