The Role
The Operations Engineer performs multiple job responsibilities in the BEST Command Center (BCC), a 24x7x365 central command center for on-air and broadcast emergencies, live QC technology, and design and implementation support for News & Entertainment technology projects.
The Daily
The job responsibilities of the Operations Engineer are to support all of the primary functions of the BCC and include the following:
• Live QC and Commercial Ingest
• Use of specialized Live QC technology to ensure the highest quality of all incoming signals into the News networks
• Work with Commercial/Promo Ingest equipment to maintain the quality of the commercial servers content and protect the commercial revenue stream Serves as Tier 1 support for service triage and dispatch
• Provides first call response for broadcast and on-air emergencies, ensuring all incidents and service requests are properly documented, classified, and assigned; dispatched from the BCC as needed to perform on-site troubleshooting and issue resolution
• Specialized Support for BIT Teams and Projects under minimum direction of the engineering support teams
• This position will provide assistance in maintaining the Broadcast Technical Infrastructure and provide labor for project execution, including cabling and equipment racking
*This role works in a shift environment with periodic shift rotation and days off
The Essentials
• Must possess a background knowledge of some combination including Broadcast Engineering, Live Video Production, Information Technology, Customer Support, Networking, Computer Science, and Troubleshooting skills
• Minimum of a two-year Technical Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Broadcast Engineering; or equivalent education / experience / training
• Computer Repair / Electronic Repair / Software and Hardware Troubleshooting experience
• IT Networking and System Administration Experience
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including technical and business writing
• Customer Service experience
• Focus and attention to detail during repetitive tasks
• Ability to excel working on their own as well as in a team environment
• Ability to resolve complex technical problems in a timely manner
• Self-motivation with a passion for technology and learning
• Programming or Scripting involving Java, .NET, HTML, PHP, JavaScript, and/or NodeJS a plus
• Database Administration experience with MySQL, Oracle, MSSQL, and/or MongoDB a plus
• Comfortability with Windows 7, OS X, CentOS (Linux experience is a plus)
• Helpdesk / Service Desk Experience (highly desirable)
• Flexibility to work in a shift environment with periodic shift rotation and days off
