The HR Manager will support client groups in CNN International Commercial, Digital Ventures & Innovation, Technology & Operations in London. CNNI Commercial is responsible for CNN's intercontinental commercial operations, spanning a diverse multiplatform portfolio across five continents. Its strategy is to grow CNN's dominance in the pan-regional TV market while accelerating growth through digital and data capabilities.
The Digital Ventures & Innovation division's focus is growth through developing new digital direct-to-consumer businesses and consumer-centric products and managing and growing Turner's international multi-platform suite of digital properties. The group is charged with identifying new opportunities for Turner through technological product innovation and/or acquisitions. Technology & Operations are an integral pillar under the leadership of DV&I and critical for the efficient delivery of new products.
The HR Manager is responsible for the proactive delivery of the full range of HR services to managers and employees in client groups based in London. The focus of activity for this role is advisory and issue led client management and involves partnering closely with the relevant business leader and their teams on employee engagement, development and retention, culture change, employee relations, team dynamics, workforce planning, succession planning, and performance management. This role collaborates with the specialist HR teams (Reward, Talent Acquisition, HR Employee Services) to ensure consistency and best practice. Functional responsibilities will include: Recruitment, Organisational Design, Talent Management, Learning and Development and Employee Relations.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
• Provide end-to-end HR advisory support to your client groups, working closely with the Specialist teams in Reward, Recruitment, Talent Management when specific expertise and assistance is required.
• Build effective working relationships with the Management team and other stakeholders within the business to an extent where you understand their challenges and can identify appropriate HR interventions to support them and are regarded as a trusted partner for strategic, operational and best practice advice on a range of HR issues.
• Develop and maintain close working relationships within the supported business units, providing a model of HR professionalism. Stays abreast of business objectives and initiatives, unit performance and issues and all requests for HR services in support of objectives, initiatives and issues.
• Ensure a good understanding of the financial drivers of your business and competitive market activity in order to ensure HR is well placed to provide commercial advice and respond to current and future business and market challenges.
• Provide coaching and counselling to management on leadership and employee development issues with creative and strategic HR value-added recommendations in support of clients' requests. As required, advise and coach managers on specific performance, conduct, absence or employee relations matters ensuring that all conduct and capability issues are dealt with in good time, sensitively and appropriately.
• Support Managers in identifying and planning appropriate development interventions for their teams. Encourage focus and ownership in them managing the talent profile within their areas through the use of succession planning tools.
• Advise and coach managers on specific performance, conduct, absence or employee relations matters and ensure that all disciplinary and capability issues are dealt with in good time, sensitively, appropriately, and in accordance with local employment law.
• Guide leaders and managers on changes to structures, job roles and definitions, reporting lines, new ways of working, process improvements, role eliminations etc and ensure adherence to works council consultation requirements and collective bargaining agreements where relevant.
• Support and advise on the implementation of the company's Diversity strategy and related policies and procedures, particularly in relation to recruitment, promotion, career development, and creating an open, inclusive and appropriate culture within Turner where differences are respected and valued.
• Undertake and manage projects and new initiatives as directed to support the achievement of the HR and Business strategy.
Knowledge and experience required
Essential:
• Degree in HR or a related field, HR certifications a plus
• Experienced HR practitioner with significant generalist experience
• Working knowledge of relevant country employment law
• Strong business acumen, ability to provide HR services and advise in a commercially sensitive and appropriate way; able understand and apply information to contribute to Turner's strategic plan.
• A completer/finisher, able to get things done and be proactive and responsive
• Experience and exposure in working with and partnering with remote teams across a global matrix organization.
• Strong intellectual capacity and ability to analyze, understand and advise on complex HR issues from a commercial perspective and with cultural sensitivity but underpinned by a detailed understanding of legislative and best practice requirements
• A real hands-on attitude - someone that can be proactive in identifying areas of improvement not only across the business but also in the HR team.
• Ability to integrate core values, integrity, and accountability throughout all organizational and business practices.
• Ability to assimilate information quickly taking into consideration commercial needs versus balancing risk and exposure to the broader organization.
• Effective change agent, able to be proactive, lead by example and support the implementation of change across the business.
• Able to inspire confidence in the Management team, and key stakeholders both within HR and outside of HR.
• Excellent communication skills and fluency in English are essential
Desirable:
• Additional major world language skills
• Experience of working in a US organization
