Tuff City Records is looking for a legal intern for the upcoming semester. For this internship, we are seeking to hire a student ideally in his or her final semester who would be interested in becoming a full-time employee after graduation. Recent graduates are also welcome. Tuff City Records is an independent record label in midtown Manhattan. We offer law interns one of the most rewarding and educational experiences in the music business. Tuff City Records is a 40-year veteran company, rich with copyrights and other intellectual property. We execute a steady stream of third-party licenses for all kinds of media, from the usual TV and film deals to superstar merchandise deals. In addition, we share copyrights with major labels that are now 1000 times our size. We are more than occasionally in litigation to assert our copyright and other rights. In sum, working with Tuff City means gaining a broad range of experience in the music and entertainment business.
Location: On site. New York City residents are a very big plus. If you are from out of town, you are taking a huge chance on a very tight rental market
Position Responsibilities:
Keep us up-to-date with entertainment industry and copyright regulation
Keep contact with our lawyers, making sure they have the information they need, for example research and document preparation for cases.
Assist transaction lawyer with search of contracts and tracking details of license requests
Research/Register works at the Performance Rights Societies and US Govt Copyright Office
Help manage our legal records
Requirements:
Must have taken a copyright course
Must have one prior music business internship
Must live in commuting distance of Midtown Manhattan
MBA or Law School Class Levels
