Summary of Responsibilities:
The Head Sound (A1) will report directly to the CATS Head Carpenter. The Head Sound (A1) is responsible for
contributing to the successful loading in, operating, and loading out of this tour; ensuring said duties are done
in a safe and responsible manner.
Technical Summary:
CATS is a 5-truck show, with a 2.5hr performance time. This production loads in, in 8 hours and out in 4 hours.
CATS will perform in multiweek, single week, and one-night performance scenarios. The compliment of
touring crew is 13, including the Head Sound (A1), and the show is running on an L-Set, IATSE Pink Contract.
This production features automated scenery components along with a Fly by FOY rigging system for onstage
performers. The sound package includes a FOH DiGiCo SD7 digital mixing console, 32 cabinet Meyer Leopard
flown arrays with accompanying subs, and a 5 Meyer UPJ speaker proscenium cluster. The cast consists of 20+
onstage, mic'd performers/dancers, 48 channels of Sennheiser Wireless, and a 10-member remote band with
vocalists.
Specific Responsibilities & Job Tasks:
• Assists Head Carpenter with the loading in, setup, and loading out of the show
• Runs FOH Audio Track
• Manages Audio Crew
• Programs and Mixes FOH Sound Console
• Maintains complete audio package including but not limited to: racks, consoles, RF systems, COM
Systems
• Responsible for the setup, testing, and troubleshooting of the main mixing console and working with
the A2 and house crew to perform a complete system check including all inputs prior to each
performance
• Responsible for ordering all supplies as needed in addition to tracking weekly purchases to ensure
department is staying on or under budget
• Assists in the teaching and instruction of performers on use of any specialty props
• Assists the Head Carpenter with ongoing show maintenance; delegating any necessary tasks to the A2
• Other duties as assigned
Physical and Job Experience Requirements:
• A minimum of 5 years mixing large scale, Broadway/theatrical touring experience as Head Audio
• Proficient in the operation and programming of DiGiCo SD series consoles
• Ability to mix the show line by line
• Ability to troubleshoot issues on any of the show sound systems
• Excellent interpersonal skills; position has extensive cast interaction
• Ability to stay extremely calm under pressure
• Ability to quickly assess a problem and communicate issues in a clear and concise manner
• Able to work on your feet for extended periods
• Exude a positive attitude and consistently approach challenges from a ''what is best for the show''
prospective
• Basic rigging skills
• Ability to push/pull a minimum of 50 lbs
• Able to jump, walk, run, crouch, crawl, climb
