Lead Facilitator, Youth Film Intensive
The TIFF Youth Film Intensive (YFI) is a four-week programme which offers youth (ages 14-17) the opportunity to grow creatively and professionally in a space dedicated to helping aspiring filmmakers develop the art of storytelling through film.
Reporting to the Manager, Youth & Community Initiatives
The first two weeks of the programme are spent on film exploration and skill development. During the last two weeks, YFI attendees will spend their time together developing and producing a short film (pre-production, production and post-production), under the supervision and guidance of film industry professionals and TIFF staff, while gaining concrete training in all aspects of filmmaking including the art of screenwriting, directing, shooting, production design, editing, and performance.
The Youth Film Intensive Lead Facilitator is responsible for helping to support the creative exploration of the youth participants across the four-week programme. They will work alongside TIFF staff and guest facilitators to foster an inclusive space where the youth can experiment and engage with different film techniques, learn new skills, work collaboratively, and have fun!
The Youth Film Intensive Lead Facilitator will take on a leadership role in making sure the day-to-day activities and curriculum of the camp are met. This includes, organizing materials and making sure the camp space is well-equipped. They will participate in all camp activities, including skill development sessions, film workshops, field trips, and film projects -- ensuring programming runs smoothly. The Youth Film Intensive Lead Facilitator will also provide administrative/technical support and maintain a comprehensive inventory of camp equipment and the digital files created by the youth.
Lastly, the Youth Film Intensive Lead Facilitator will spend two weeks prior to the start of camp on program preparation and training as well as purchasing supplies as needed.
Responsibilities
• Assist in program preparation and training prior to the start of camp
• Oversee the day-to-day activities of the camp, including acting as onsite counselor for 17 young people aged 14-17 and welcoming guest artist daily
• Support ongoing creative exploration and foster a fun, engaging and respectful space for youth participants, guest artists and facilitators to work together
• Responsible for the supervision and safety of the camp attendees
• Liaise regularly with TIFF staff and guest facilitators to ensure programming runs smoothly
• Organize materials and equipment for all camp activities
• Provide administrative/technical support and maintain an inventory of camp equipment and the digital files created by camp attendees
• Write a detailed post mortem
• Other duties as required
Minimum Requirements
• Previous experience working in a camp setting and/or with diverse youth
• Demonstrated leadership experience with strong programming understanding and organizational skills
• Ability to engage with film industry professionals with grace and aplomb
• Experience with and passion for film and creative arts
• Experience with film production equipment and software (Adobe Premiere, Canon dSLR)
• First-aid and CPR certified
• Kind, passionate, energetic, responsible
• Able to complete a clear vulnerable sector screening
