The Virgin Islands Public Television System has an opening for a General News Reporter on the island of St. Thomas. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and producing newsworthy events and stories.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The General News Reporter is responsible for analyzing and interpreting news and information received from various sources in order to be able to broadcast the information in the weekly news cast; examining news items of local, national, and international significance in order to determine topics to address, or obtain assignments from editorial staff members; editing news material to ensure that it fits within available time or space; writing scripts for news stories and feature stories; contributing during news meetings and appearing on set with anchor for interview wrap ups; generating and maintaining news sources and contacts; gathering information and developing perspectives about news subjects through research, interviews, observation, and experience; and selecting materials most pertinent to presentation, and organizing the material into appropriate formats.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or two years reporting experience;
• Computer literate in Microsoft Office;
• Ability to operate a camera;
• Non-linear video editing experience;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as interpersonal skills;
• Ability to work with minimal supervision;
• Ability to meet deadlines; and
• Ability to work flexible hours.
