Teaching Artist, The Moth Education and Community Programs
What we're looking for:
The facilitation of true, personal storytelling requires a unique set of skills. Our instructors are able to identify and deliver useful, candid feedback on participants' stories while simultaneously prioritizing the agency and well-being of each individual teller and of the group at large.
We are looking for engaging and empathetic facilitators with a passion for storytelling and for working in classrooms and community spaces.
Our Onboarding Process
Newly hired instructors receive a paid orientation and training, followed by a paid observation period of one semester. Once these are successfully completed, new instructors are placed in one or more residencies based on availability and preference.
Responsibilities include:
• Facilitate Moth-designed curriculum
• Reflect critically with co-instructors and supervisors on teaching practice
• Communicate regularly with partners, students and program managers
• Attend paid instructor trainings and adhere to safety protocols
• Assist with production of storytelling performances as needed
Qualifications:
· Minimum Bachelor's Degree
· At least 2 years prior experience as teacher, teaching artist, facilitator, or comparable leadership position.
· Previous performance experience preferred- storytelling or other form
· Cultural sensitivity and the ability to connect with diverse groups of people
