Full Time Job
The Los Angeles Film School, a leader in entertainment arts education, is seeking instructors for our Entertainment Business Bachelor of Science degree.
The Entertainment Business program provides a well-rounded study of business administration and management principles with a focus on their application in the entertainment industry. Students receive training in management, leadership, marketing, accounting, finance, intellectual property, and other aspects of business.
We are looking for creative, passionate individuals with a background in training or teaching to work with our student body of creative-minded future business leaders from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
The Los Angeles Film School provides a benefit package to full-time instructors.

Ideal applicants are capable of teaching in multiple areas of specialty. Currently we have positions available in the following areas of instruction:
-EBS 303 Entertainment Business Ethics (3 credits)
This course affords an examination of the complex, real-world ethical problems associated with the management of a business. Through the examination of case studies, students will debate the responsibilities of managers, broaden their awareness of personal, professional, and business ethics, and address the social responsibility of the entertainment industry.
-EBS 410 Entertainment Business Law (3 credits)
In this course students learn about legal requirements and business practices including entity formation, insurance, taxes, intellectual property, real estate, employment and contracts. Topics covered include the role of agents, managers, and attorneys, as well as best practices when hiring an attorney. Students learn the regulations that control how a business operates in cyberspace. Concepts are explored through legal case studies and applied business examples.
-EBS 411 Intellectual Property (3 credits)
The Intellectual Property course provides an examination of trade secrets, trademarks, patents, and copyrights in connection with methods of protecting creative works. Students explore acquisition, licensing, sale, and transfer of rights as they relate to music, digital media, animation, interactive entertainment, film, and show production. Rights and issues related to independent contractors and work-for-hire employees are also addressed.
-EBS 440 Artist Management (3 credits)
The Artist Management course explores the role and responsibilities of the manager of artists, bands, and performers. Artist managers play a significant role in the entertainment and music business community and in the career of the artist. Topics include the artist-manager relationship, launching an artist's career, management contracts, the artist as a brand, and career path management.
-EBS 480 Entertainment Contracts and Licensing (3 credits)
In this course students learn the importance of contracts and best practices in contract writing strategies as they examine strengths and weaknesses of real world contracts and create their own contracts and deal memos. They learn the requirements of licensing and how to recognize potential licensing opportunities. Students learn negotiating skills and tactics specific to the entertainment, music, and media industries.
Position Requirements
-Entertainment Business Ethics, Entertainment Business Law, Intellectual Property, and Entertainment Contracts & Licensing.
The ideal candidate has:
-A J.D. degree (preferred)-a bachelor or masters degree in a related topic with very substantial experience related to the topic will also be considered.
-At least four years of experience practicing business law or equivalent expertise in the entertainment industry.
-Practical knowledge of and ability to teach and explain contracts common in the film and music industries; and experience in contract negotiations, preferably in the entertainment industry.
-A solid understanding of money flow in the entertainment industry and the intellectual property concepts that are its foundation.
Knowledge of current trends and deal structure in the film, television, and music industries.
Artist Management
The ideal candidate has a similar background, industry experience and education as above, but with additional experience in artist management in the music and/or film industries.
Essential Functions
Instructors:
-Serve as the instructor for assigned course(s) or course sections and are responsible for teaching, advising students, administrative duties related to their courses, participation in open houses, campus events, and other campus activities.
-Contribute to the development and maintenance of course materials consistent with industry standards and stated learning objectives for the course and program as directed by the Program Director.
-Provide academic support to students via personal meetings, phone, and e-mail.
-Assist in developing and implementing retention initiatives.
-Grade subjective examinations and other work.
-Monitor and lead online discussion boards and chat activity.
-Ensure student's successful completion of course objectives and learning outcomes.
-Maintain accurate academic records including grades, attendance and student communications, in full compliance with federal and state privacy laws
-Perform these responsibilities with the highest professional standards consistent with the vision, mission and strategy of the Los Angeles Film School.
Professional Development
-Complete and document a minimum of 16 hours continuing education per year.

Instructors are evaluated on some or all of these criteria:
-Assessments of student learning outcomes.
-Student evaluations.
-Student retention.
-In-class observations.
-Compliance with all academic, operational and financial policies of the school.
-Peer reviews.
-General performance and conduct as per standard Los Angeles Film School employee evaluations.
-Adherence to supervisory and managerial guidelines.
Experience and Education Required:
-A minimum of four years related professional work experience in the subject area being taught.
-Bachelor's Degree or higher in a related field required.
-Teaching and/or public speaking experience.
-Comfortable with both Apple and Windows operating systems.
-Competent using Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint, experience with Keynote software is a plus.
Other Skills Required and General Information:
-Positive attitude, a desire to help others, and a passion for educating.
-Excellent communication abilities, both verbal and written.
-Proficient with relevant industry tools.
-Classes and administrative hours are primarily weekdays, but weekend or evening duties may be required at times.
