Full Time Job
The Tampa Bay Rays Communications department is seeking a full-time baseball information and communications assistant. This position will have a primary focus on baseball information, researching and supporting the manager of baseball information and communications for all baseball-specific written materials (media guide, pregame and postgame notes, press releases, postseason media guide, etc.).
Responsibilities
• Research, write and update sections of the daily pregame notes (home and road games) and postgame notes (home games)
• Ability to handle entirety of pregame notes when needed, including front page, and merging, exporting, emailing and uploading final document
• Ability to send roster moves and game notes via the @RaysPR Twitter account
• Update records, opponents and minor league sections of annual media guide, update stat charts in player bios in the media guide, postseason guide and in supplemental bios during regular season
• Lead production of MLB First-Year Player Draft media information, including press releases and player info
• Produce press box publications for home games, including stat pack, minor league report and lineups, update rosters after each transaction during the season
• Upload press box publications to mlbpressbox.com and internal media site at https://rayspressbox.com
• Proofread all press releases and research player notes for trades and free agent signings press releases
• Track team and player milestones, handle misc. requests from coaches and clubhouse staff
• Assist press box attendant with printing and copying needs in the press box
• Assist interns in summarizing news stories and compiling press clips, when needed
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested
Qualifications
• Prior sports experience in media relations or sports information
• Highly knowledgeable in baseball statistics, terminology and rules; strong familiarity with MLB teams and players, both current and past
• Highly skilled researcher with experience using baseball statistical databases and search functions
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Detail- and deadline-oriented
• Highly motivated and well organized
• Proficient in Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Word and Excel
