SUMMARY
Incumbents support a variety of daily recreational services and programs, including youth and adult sports leagues, youth/teen programs, tennis, campus operations, and special events. Incumbents are part of daily operations, set up site and equipment, assist in scheduling and conducting activities, perform customer service, and compile simple reports. Incumbents may serve as cashiers receiving checks and cash.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Roves/maintains security and safety of facilities throughout the shift; ensures the proper maintenance of recreational facilities and equipment to provide a safe and sanitary environment, and notifies supervisor of any problems and/or concerns
• Notifies patrons of activity schedules and registration requirements
• Monitors spectators and participants on all age levels and/or special populations at a variety of recreation events, spring training games, trips, and tours to ensure safety and orderly conduct
• Officiates youth games and events, maintains standards of play and ensures game rules are observed, and enforces rules of play on the field/court during youth sports games
• Performs a variety of clerical activities in support of office operations, which may include entering information into databases, answering phones, filing, maintaining calendars of events, delivering flyers, and/or performing other related activities
• Monitors sites, picks up paper and trash
• Responds to requests for information from the general public
• Performs inventory of maintenance activities
• May be required to perform cashier duties during a scheduled shift, which may include accepting payment of fees, processing ticket sales, handling cash, issuing passes, and completing all necessary reporting and recordkeeping documentation
• Completes written reports, maintains accurate written records of accidents and incidents that occur on park grounds or in recreation facilities, notifies supervisor of accidents and incidents, and keeps accurate recording of time worked
• Provides customer service support to department, welcomes customers/visitors, answers incoming telephone calls, and handles customer inquiries
• Assists with game presentations and promotions, special events, customer relations, sales, and box office
• Performs the essential duties of the job in the conditions described in the physical demands and work environment sections below
• Maintains regular attendance and punctuality
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level

Knowledge of:
• Principles and practices of public recreation
• First aid methods and safety precautions utilized in recreation
• Rules and regulations governing various competitive athletic games such as softball, baseball, basketball, hockey, etc.
• A variety of active and passive game activities suitable for children, adolescents, adults, senior citizens, and/or special populations
• Tools and techniques of teaching music, drama, crafts, sports, or other specialties involved
• Basic recordkeeping practices and procedures
• Basic bookkeeping practices and principles
• Time management, and organizational practices and procedures
• Basic arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
• Proper English, spelling, and grammar
• Modern office practices, procedures, methods, and computer equipment and software applications
• Basic recreation operations in assigned area of responsibility
• Customer service principles
• Handling cash
• Skill in:
• Using standard office equipment including a telephone, 10-key calculator, and copy and fax machines
• Using a computer and related software applications
• Ability to:
• Provide customer service
• Perform basic bookkeeping
• Assist with implementing recreational programs, special events, and activities
• Work as a team player with other City staff
• Work flexible hours to include evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Work cooperatively with groups of all age levels and socioeconomic backgrounds
• Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others
• Learn job-related responsibilities primarily through oral instruction and observation which take place mainly in an on-the-job-training setting
• Communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., to exchange or convey information and receive work direction

Based on assignment to program or services, incumbents may be subjected to chemicals, extreme temperatures, and intense noises for extended periods of time, and moderate exposure to dust, pollen, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and uneven terrain. Assignments to office or administrative work are not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
