POSITION OVERVIEW
We are looking for a new Associate Director to serve as a cross-programmatic facilitator while leading artist programs, grant funds, research, and film curation centering Indigenous populations. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in film festival programming, grantmaking, film production, and a working knowledge of Indigenous communities.
Working closely under the Director of the Indigenous Program, you will uphold the artistic integrity of the Sundance Film Festival in the evaluation and selection of films. You will also lead the outreach and selection process, planning, and execution of the Indigenous Program Labs, Intensives, and Sessions while managing programming events in collaboration with the team.
This position works full time from our Los Angeles, CA office, and must be able to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays at key points throughout the year. Travel to other Institute offices and events, including being lodged during the Festival and labs for approximately five weeks each year, may be required.

Indigenous Program:
• Research program history and documentation, design Indigenous filmmaking protocols, and develop an advocacy strategy.
• Lead Indigenous Program's engagement with other artist programs to bolster Indigenous artist participation across the organization and all programs.
• Oversee the Indigenous Program Grant Fund to ensure compliance and reporting.
• Serve as a key staff member in determining fellowships and granting awards and provide recommendations for outside avenues of support.
• Co-lead the Indigenous Program wings of APG sub-teams to provide key staff support and guidance.
• Represent the Indigenous team at key targeted events.
• Increase efficiency by identifying areas of improvement in the Indigenous Program's workflow and maintain accurate programmatic records and data in NetSuite.
• Drive meaningful and regular communications with the Senior Director to ensure alignment to Institute and department strategies for future and ongoing work.
Artist Outreach and Programs:
• Oversee Artist Programs, regional and international programs, intensives, the Merata Mita Fellowship, Full Circle, (in addition to others); and lead ongoing artist and project development processes.
• Lead the planning and execution of the Native Filmmakers Lab, Indigenous Intensives, and Indigenous Sessions including selecting, scheduling, and preparing fellows and advisors for their lab experience.
• Evaluate material submitted for program labs, ensuring that selections meet program and Institute goals of diversity and fair consideration for all artists.
• Assist in the creation of the Festival program, including sourcing, viewing, evaluating, and tracking submissions and corresponding with filmmakers.
• Lead Indigenous film curation related to Festival, public and regional programs, and all distribution opportunities.
• Conduct outreach by cultivating and maintaining relationships with artists, producers, directors, and other international film community professionals.
• Scout for and solicit new talent and projects by attending and researching selected film festivals, conferences, markets, and so on.
• Build and maintain industry relationships for artist connection and placement, related to Full Circle Initiative and to raise the profile of the program and advance all projects.
• Provide year-round creative feedback and support to all fellows, active grantees, and alumni, including script and rough-cut feedback, strategic production support, introductions to key industry partners, and so on.
You have the following direct or transferable skill-sets:
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.
• Master's degree in Native American studies, film, media, or a related discipline preferred.
• Minimum eight years of film festival programming experience.
• Strong leadership skills and the ability to build productive relationships with all levels of staff while working across the organization in order to drive results.
• Ability to interact effectively with a variety of people, possess a cultural sensitivity in working with diverse communities.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to thrive in a hands-on, highly collaborative, and team-driven environment.
• Working knowledge of Indigenous communities and Tribes worldwide.
• Strong project management skills and the ability to strategize, set, and meet goals.
• Strong consultation, presentation, meeting design, and facilitation skills.
• Experience in grantmaking, budget management, film producing, and script writing preferred.
• Highest levels of personal and professional integrity.
• Must be able to maintain confidential information.
• Fluency in a second language other than English preferred.
