POSITION OVERVIEW
The Creative Content Editor is charged with developing original content for a variety of platforms including the Institute website, social media platforms, and live events to support marketing initiatives for the Sundance Institute and its programs. Their efforts will support, adhere to, and further shape the video content strategy.
Working closely under the Creative Director and Creative Producer, the Content Editor will create and strategize audio visual content that serves the overall marketing purposes of Sundance Institute.
This full-time position is based out of our Los Angeles, CA office with regular opportunities for remote work and will be required to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, at key points throughout the year. This position will also be required to travel to other Institute offices and events, including the annual Sundance Film Festival on occasion.
Top priorities include but are not limited to…
• Working as the in-house editor for the Sundance Institute, including editing videos for the Sundance Film Festival, the summer labs, intensives, programs, panels and promotional videos created year-round.
• Developing strong narratives and bold creative executions on all content generated.
• Managing creative aspects of the editing process, including footage sourcing, music selection, creating and applying graphic assets, receiving notes and creating revisions, color correction as well as organizing clips, source files and assets for archival purposes.
• Coordinating with the team to source graphic assets, titles, cards, and other elements to create videos, screenwashes, digital lobbies, and other screen content for social, onscreen and platform exhibition.
• Facilitating post-production, including editing, file management, delivery, and maintenance for internal departments as directed.
• Staying current on accessibility best practices and applying them to all our deliverables, including adding closed captions to videos.
• Serving as internal post-production coordinator, managing assets to and from vendors, partners, contractors and other stakeholders in the creation of videos, screenwashes, lobbies and other video content.
• Working closely with campaign partners to ensure that videos are completed and published on time.
• Meeting deadlines and schedules for editing many concurrent projects throughout the year, and communicating needs, questions, and changes effectively and promptly.
• Supporting all production and creative aspects of generating video content for the entire Sundance Institute.
• Routinely conducting research and exploring emerging trends in film, video, design and social content.
• Tracking and maintaining a comprehensive inventory of incoming footage, final edits, exports, and all hard drives, in conjunction with the Archives team, adding new and existing video content to Sundance Institute Archives (digital asset management system) and servers.
• Researching and evaluating current content libraries, including legacy assets, to identify what we have, what we need, what we can reconstruct/re-purpose as well as identify opportunities for content growth.
• Managing the Sundance YouTube channel, working closely with the Creative Producer and social team to implement social and video content strategy, and pull data from social channels about video performance and other metrics.
• Maintaining the Sundance Institute online video library as a year-round, evergreen, and robust video continent offering on platforms including YouTube, Vimeo, and others.
• Supporting and adhering to the video and photo content strategy for the Institute's marketing initiative.
• Assisting the Creative Director in leading the team to produce original content for a wide variety of uses and platforms, including the Institute website, social media platforms, external press outlets, and live events.
• Assisting in photo editing internal photography projects, including picking selects, reframing, color grading, and trafficking as needed.
• Providing logistical and creative support for video, film or audio content creation, including production coordination and camera assistance as needed.
• Coordinating inventory, storage, shipping, usage, and maintenance of content production equipment owned and rented by the Institute.
• Supporting the team and the Creative Director, developing video content ideas to support artists and public programs.
• Educating on video production and editing best practices and methods across the Institute.
You have the following direct or transferable skill sets:
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.
• 3 years of experience editing in Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro, and knowledge of video formats, editing, transcoding, and management.
• Ability to manage and prioritize the resources and tasks required to support simultaneous deliverables and delivery dates.
• Excellent organization skills and strong attention to detail and accuracy in recording, tracking, and issuing information to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and adjust to shifting priorities.
• Strong understanding of the Sundance Institute brand and passion for our mission.
• Strong leadership skills to work effectively in a team environment and guide others to meet goals.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong understanding of producing and editing engaging short-form content specifically for social media channels, including both landscape and vertical formats.
• Knowledge of Premiere Pro Photoshop and InDesign preferred.
• Experience and proficiency operating DSLR cameras and other key production gear; audio, lighting, etc.
• Working knowledge in Windows PC and Apple MAC operating systems, file sharing, and video production environments.
