Job Summary:
The Director, Media Relations & Marketing will lead the development and execution of strategic marketing campaigns and proactive communications efforts related to the Stockton Kings, the G-League franchise of the Sacramento Kings. The Director will work cross-functionally with other team leadership (including Ticket Sales, Corporate Partnerships, Entertainment, and others) and act as the liaison with the Creative team to produce marketing plans that reach business goals. The position will also oversee basketball media relations staff and will report to the VP of Business Operations and work under the guidance of the Director of Media Relations. Starting salary is $60,000.
Media Relations:
• Execute the implementation of integrated and proactive strategic communications plans related to basketball communications.
• Represent the Stockton Kings to the media and community by acting as a spokesperson for related basketball issues.
• Develop relationships with media representatives to create opportunities that elevate the profile of the team.
• Develop messaging and briefing materials for use by staff, coaches and players at public speaking engagements and media interviews. Prep and staff media interviews for staff, coaches, and players.
• Supervise basketball communications media relations team consisting of Media Relations Manager, Media Relations Assistant and Media Relations game night staff including leading long and short-term strategic planning, game-night media responsibilities and team member growth.
• Work collaboratively with departments across the organization to determine and implement media relations support.
• Ability to travel with the team.
Marketing:
• Lead collaboration with other departments to align on business goals and develop marketing strategies that benefit the organization. Identify opportunities to integrate campaigns throughout Marketing, Communications, Corporate Partnerships, Ticket Sales, Entertainment, and Community Impact.
• Primary areas of focus will include driving revenue through ticket sales, developing the fanbase, strengthening brand recognition, supporting the in-arena fan experience, and assisting in the development of co-branded promotions with corporate partners.
• Serve as the primary liaison with the Creative team, ensuring assets for advertising and other projects are delivered on-time, on-brand, and on-budget. Write creative and media briefs providing clear direction on all campaigns and events. Work closely with designers from concept through completion.
• Drive key business results through integrated campaigns including digital, social, email, television, radio, outdoor, and other tactics.
• Oversee the planning and purchasing of media when necessary to strengthen campaigns. Serve as the primary point of contact for promotional agreements (paid and trade) with media partners.
• Manage regular email campaigns including newsletters and ticket sales initiatives in close collaboration with the Business Intelligence team.
• Works closely with the Digital team to ensure promotions are represented on StocktonKings.com and relevant social channels.
• Develops tracking mechanisms for campaigns to help evaluate overall effectiveness, identify strengths and opportunities.
• Collaborate on theme night concepts that provide memorable in-game entertainment and activation opportunities for corporate partners, plus drive ticket sales.
• Oversee the creation of promotional items and marketing collateral.
• Cultivate and utilize a keen understanding of our customers and market for effective campaigns.
• Manage the marketing budget and season-long marketing calendar.
• Manage the development and workload of the Marketing Intern.
Qualifications:
• Willingness and ability to provide proof of completed COVID-19 vaccination will required as a condition of employment.
• Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Business, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, or related field
• At least 3 years related experience preferred, ideally in the sports and entertainment industry
• Proven track record of developing, executing, and measuring marketing campaigns
• History of leading basketball-related communications based on strategic, measurable
• objectives
• Previous work in the media or sports industry preferred, but not required
• Ability to champion a strategic vision with different groups and opinions
• Excellent communication skills and experience with creative copywriting
• Exceptional editing skills, writing and presentation skills (written and verbal)
• Must be detail oriented with the ability to multi-task
• Proven prioritization and organizational skills
• Knowledge of project management tools and concepts preferred
• Ability to work nights/weekends and have a flexible schedule
