Steamroller Animation is looking for key contributors to join our team as Unreal Look Development Artists to embark with us on our latest episodic odyssey.
Responsibilities:
Ability to replicate and/or invent stylized surface properties and shaders that interact with stylized lighting in an appealing manner
Able to understand and interpret stylized 2D concepts into 3D
Work closely with multiple departments, interpret feedback, offer and collaborate on solutions and ideas to contribute to the overall vision of the project.
UVing (understanding of Unreal requirements and constraints)
Texturing using non-destructive Substance Painter workflow
Understanding of and ability to develop/refine collaborative workflows: need consistency, quality and speed across a growing team.
Understanding of technical requirements for a substance to unreal surfacing workflow
Good understanding of Shading in Unreal with the ability to collaborate with the technical team to understand, anticipate and act on feedback.
Highly skilled with a variety of shading styles-especially stylized, Art Directed surfacing
Ability to drive the lookdev of locations and environments working closely with the art team.
Overall artistic eye with a deep understanding of traditional principles such as surface properties, color harmony, and value balance.
Experience working in a feature animation/game cinematic pipeline with the ability to troubleshoot problems based on past experience
Able to stay within the allotted bid estimates (although remember these are estimates) for most tasks and communicate roadblocks appropriately
Share his/her experience and help the less experienced members of the team
Work within an organized pipeline internally for Production and workflow needs
Document and communicate best practices and techniques for the LookDev pipeline
Qualifications:
Must be proficient in: Unreal, Maya, Substance Painter, Photoshop
Experience with Unreal real time production pipelines is a plus
Experience with NPR (non-photo real rendering) is a plus
Experience creating art-directable stylized textures and shaders
Strong visual skills and a good eye for; lighting, shading, color and detail.
Able to perform quality control of both creative and technical aspects of assets
Enthusiasm and desire to work in the industry
Previous experience working in a Feature Animation/Cinematic Real Time Pipeline with the ability to troubleshoot problems based on past experience
In-depth knowledge of Maya/Unreal Shader Development
Good organization skills for a clean and collaborative workflow.
Experience developing Lookdev for offline rendering. Familiarity with offline render engines such as Redshift.
Can input necessary information to guide Lighting/Rendering pipeline as needed with a thorough understanding of the requirements of compositing and ability to break down required render passes to achieve look.
Able to take and apply feedback well from the Director, Creative Director and Art Directors
Able to reach out and communicate issues or questions on workflow and production with Teammates and Supervisors
Working knowledge of ZBrush and/or Substance Designer a plus
