Part Time Unpaid Internship
Role Description:
The Film Tech department at SXSW is seeking individuals who are eager to learn about film exhibition and different exhibition formats used at the festival. An individual seeking this position should have an interest in how content is delivered to each venue, how films are projected for a mass audience and a willingness to work hard.
You must be currently enrolled in an accredited university or college to be eligible for the SXSW Film Tech Internship. Please note that this internship is unpaid.
What you will learn:
• The different formats of films shown at SXSW and their projecting mediums
• How to schedule, track, and ensure film deliveries to each venue
• How to troubleshoot technical, and non-technical, issues in a sometimes high stress environment
• The ins and outs of the exhibition side of a film festival
Qualifications
Candidates should:
• Have strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Have an exceptional work ethic with the ability to both multitask and work independently
• Be able to take initiative when needed
• Have a good attitude, time management skills, and sense of professionalism
• Work well in a team setting
• Be able to adapt and maintain composure in a fast paced environment
• Possess good communication skills and have proper phone and email etiquette
• Be eager to learn and work with film equipment/formats
• Be familiar with phone systems
• Having a working knowledge of Filemaker Pro, Gmail, Google Calendar/Docs and Mac computers is a plus
Duties and Tasks:
• Process inbound films received
• Organize the film exhibition library
• Manage private online screening albums
• Assist QC Coordinator during the Quality Control sessions
• Drop off films at designated venue for QC
• Help organize and prioritize film runs w/volunteer crew during the festival
• Proofread film slides.
Availability:
This position runs January 2020 - March 2020 and requires a time commitment of 12-20 hours a week with a minimum of 3 days onsite in the SXSW office in downtown Austin. Full-time availability during SXSW 2020 (Friday, March 13 - Sunday, March 22) is required.
