Part Time Unpaid Internship
Internship Description:
The Film department at SXSW is seeking an individual who is eager to learn more about pre-event planning at a Film Festival conference. This will be a broad, hands-on introduction to the basics of internal operations. This person will interface with Film Conference Speakers so great communication skills are a must.
You must be currently enrolled in an accredited university or college to be eligible for the SXSW
Please note that this internship is unpaid.
What you will learn:
• How to organize special events at a festival
• How to implement festival production on site
• How to problem solve, on the fly, under pressure
• How to use Filemaker Pro to ensure proper production implementation
Duties and Projects:
• Tracking all Excellence in Poster Design Competition entries
• Contacting filmmakers who have started but not completed their Poster entries
• Working with the Film Poster Gallery curator to ensure all materials for the gallery hanging are secured and in place for the build, as well as assisting in building out the gallery
• Assisting the jurors in judging of the Excellence in Poster Design Competition
• Working with the Film Production Team to build, run and tear down all red carpets during SXSW
• Working with the Film Production Team to build, maintain and tear down all Film Festival Venues
• Helping the Film Production Coordinator produce and run any Film Festival Special Events
Availability:
This position runs from November 2019 - April 2020 and requires a minimum time commitment
of 12-20 hours a week with a minimum of 3 days onsite in the SXSW office in downtown Austin.
Full-time availability during SXSW 2020 March 13 - March 22 is required
Qualifications
Candidates should:
- Have strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Have an exceptional work ethic with the ability to both multitask and work independently
- Have a good attitude, time management skills, and sense of professionalism
- Work well in a team setting
- Be able to adapt, and maintain composure in a fast paced environment
- Possess good communication skills and have proper phone and email etiquette
- Be age 21 or over with valid drivers license
- Having a working knowledge of Filemaker Pro, Gmail, Google Calendar/Docs and Mac computers is a plus
