Products and Merchandise Intern, MPG - Summer 2019
The Sony Pictures Entertainment Internship program offers a unique opportunity to work alongside the teams that come together to create movies, TV shows, and other great experiences. These seasonal paid assignments provide meaningful and productive work that allow you to build your resume, experience and develop your skills further. You will be provided with challenging tasks, real-world experience, valuable networking opportunities, and many educational and social opportunities while on the lot. This Summer internship is from May/June through mid-August. All candidates must be able to work between 40 hours a week.
Consumer Products is the licensing and merchandising division for Sony Pictures Entertainment. Our department offers licenses of our intellectual properties to manufactures of hard goods and soft goods such as apparel, accessories, stationery, home décor, toys, plush, collectibles, games, seasonal and more.
The Product Development department collaborates with our partners to design and develop consumer products utilizing our licensed characters with usable creative assets to bring our films to life through compelling consumer products that are sold in the retail marketplace.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Competitive product, trend research and presentation preparation for internal and external meetings
• Brainstorming; developing designs and product concepts to support the consumer products business
• Creating presentations utilizing Keynote and or PowerPoint
• Support product development team with reviewing licensed partners product design submissions providing written and overlay drawings
• Attending partner meetings and preparation of recap notes to support the PD Team
• Manage special design projects as needed (i.e. inspiration and trend research, creative asset development, product designs, tradeshow support materials and retail events)
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Interest in the entertainment industry, animated characters, television, and live-action films
• Strength in product design and development of consumer goods
• Experience developing products utilizing licensed characters is a plus
• Experienced in design-based programs such as Adobe Creative Suite; Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign as well as 3D design programs
• Tech Savvy; utilize the web, proficient in Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and other social media such as Instagram
• Strong drawing and design skills with an understanding of product manufacturing processes
• Solid written and verbal communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Undergraduate student studying Toy or Product Design/Development
