Stat & Tax Financial Accountant

SPE Finance and Accounting is currently defining its roadmap to transform the organization from a Line of Business and territory orientation to one which is global, enterprise-based, focusing on process improvement, standardization, reducing complexity and the use of technology. The global team's objectives are to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the overall team while enhancing the value and accessibility of the data created by the accounting processes which will enable the commercial teams to drive toward greater revenue growth and margin improvements.
The role will help to transform SPE's Finance and Accounting organization. The responsibilities of the position will include, but not be limited to: (1) working with GFO colleagues in establishing a viable and sustainable working outsource model with our partner, Capgemini, (2) point of escalation for stat & tax issues for the Global GFO organisation including in-country finance leads, specialising in VAT, (3) maintaining a global perspective to ensure that we always take into consideration the broadest aspects of every challenge and opportunity we encounter, (4) maintaining control and visibility over Global VAT compliance and (5) being a member of the team who own SPE's financial systems and is responsible for developing a roadmap to rationalize our current landscape from a federation of bespoke applications into one that is more efficient and harmonized across our differing business models leveraging state of the art technology platforms which will support SPE well into the future.
The role will work closely with the Stat & Tax Global VAT Senior Manager in delivering quality and complying with performance standards of General Accounting and Control to support Global Finance teams and the Stat & Tax GFO internationally with relevant and timely information.
Core Responsibilities
Establish a viable and sustainable working outsource model
• Assist with the successful transition of SPE's Stat & Tax from its two centres in Gdynia and Manila, as well as from its operating territories to Capgemini
• Assist with defining the GFO model with respect to Global Stat & Tax requirements. This includes defining the interaction model with ITF, Capgemini and the commercial teams as needed; ensuring a strong control environment; aligning on the appropriate reviews and feedback mechanisms; etc.
• Work with Global VAT Senior Manager in identifying opportunities and implementing standardisation and improvements in compliance and processes
• Help to create an environment which embraces change and thrives in dynamic situations which can often have both unclear and uncertain outcomes
• Assist with escalating issues between Global Finance teams and third parties
Responsibility for Global VAT
• Assist with overseeing the co-ordination of Global Indirect Tax operations ensuring timely and accurate reporting
• Help identify, implement, manage and improve processes
• Work with Finance system teams on enhancements, changes and implementation
• Review trends in Indirect Tax positions flagging anomalies
• Liaise with third party providers including Deloitte
Stat & Tax GFO responsibilities
• Help to develop and implement the team's vision and values, aligned to SPE's CEO and CFO's objectives and goals
• Work with Stat & Tax GFO by supporting the oversight, accounting and control of SPE
• Flag unusual VAT activity with the Global VAT Senior Manager proposing solutions where possible
• Assist Global VAT Senior Manager with identifying and escalating stat & tax issues for Stat & Tax GFO
VAT advisory
• Assist Global VAT Senior Manager with advising the business on VAT matters in a timely and efficient manner
• Together with the Global VAT Senior Manager, analyse VAT (and equivalent) computations identifying potential VAT savings/opportunities, exposures and risks and advising the business accordingly
• Liaise with Global FDs and Tax Authorities to ensure that SPE is achieving the highest overall results possible and communicate in a timely manner
• Stay up to date on VAT legislation
Projects and Continuous Improvement
• Work with Global VAT Senior Manager on business projects, support the identification and implementation of process improvements and new technologies
• Assist Global VAT Senior Manager on continuous improvement within the business
Job Requirements
Experience:
• Experience of working across a Global business within a multi-cultural corporate working environment
• Proficient in Global Service Delivery model and managing outsourcing strategies and transitions
• Well versed in maintaining, documenting and overseeing a control environment for a large-scale corporation
• Proficient in delivering Finance and Accounting projects/programs
• CTA or Relevant VAT technical qualifications (part or fully qualified)
• (Not mandatory but a plus) Experience working on/implementing IT/systems' projects
Knowledge:
• Experience of working in a shared services environment
• Appreciation of VAT regulatory requirements
• Excellent ability to work closely with a variety of constituencies including Finance and Accounting executive and technical stakeholders including IT, Legal, Tax and third party professional service firms/outsource providers
• Ability to understand and effectively deal with cultural differences

• (Not mandatory but a plus) Speak another language (preferably Spanish)
