Graduate Data Science and Analytics Intern, Sony Pictures Television - Spring 2020
The Sony Pictures Entertainment Internship program offers a unique opportunity to work alongside the teams that come together to create movies, TV shows, and other great experiences. These seasonal, paid assignments provide meaningful and productive work that allow you to build your resume, experience and develop your skills further. You will be provided with challenging tasks, real-world experience, valuable networking opportunities, and many educational and social opportunities while on the lot. This Spring Internship is from January through end of May and all candidates must be able to work between 15-29 hours a week (flexible based on school schedule).
Sony Pictures Television Research provides insights, analysis, and advisory for all lines of business through both primary research and data analytics. With a global team of over 50 professionals located around the world, we seek to transform the way we do business through 'data-driven' and 'decision-ready' analytical products that drive positive change for our clients and the company.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Within SPT Research, the data analytics team is small but growing. Our team has developed a data warehouse that has transformed our descriptive reporting through visualization. We have also implemented practical ML & statistical techniques to provide new business critical reports. We need a capable intern to work with us to advance our data science practice. Currently, we are interested in using linear programming and optimization techniques to experiment with the program schedules of our TV networks. A candidate with similar interests and exposure would have added advantage. This position will require interaction with business executives, and you will work on a new and challenging business problem with actual stakeholders.
Your day-to-day responsibility will include:
• Understand and clarify business requirements
• Develop a plan to gather and process data
• Apply the appropriate tools and algorithms to the data to address key business questions
• Collaborate with the IT team to leverage existing data sets and tools
• Share insights and implications of findings within SPT Research group and with business stakeholders in the form of presentations and written communication
• Opportunities to network, lunch-n-learn, receive mentorship from company executives, and gain exposure to SPT and other divisions within Sony Pictures Entertainment
QUALIFICATIONS:
• 2+ years of experience in an analytical role dealing with large data sets
• MS/BS in Business Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics or other quantitative fields or equal experience
• Proficiency in data mining, statistical modeling and NLP is a big plus
• Fluency in Python or R or other statistical package and ability to interpret results
• Strong knowledge of databases, SQL and data visualization tools such as Tableau
• Possess strong analytical aptitude, intellectual curiosity, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively to solve problems
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Currently enrolled in a master's degree program
