Senior Counsel - Corporate & Releasing
Sony Pictures Entertainment's Corporate Legal Department is searching for an exceptional attorney who thrives in a collaborative team environment to support Sony Pictures' theatrical releasing business and to work on investment, M&A and other strategic corporate transactions. As a major movie studio, Sony Pictures releases films domestically and around the globe and seeks to capitalize on growing international opportunities in a fast-changing world. Additionally, as the media industry rapidly evolves, Sony Pictures is presented with a variety of strategic opportunities. Based in Culver City, California, this attorney will work with senior business executives in Sony Pictures' domestic and international theatrical releasing groups and will work on corporate transactions involving many additional Sony Pictures businesses. Projects will include M&A transactions, joint ventures and investments and will often relate to new digital technologies. The successful candidate will also work on a variety of licensing and commercial transactions relating to territories around the world and provide advice regarding regulatory and compliance matters.
As a member of Sony Pictures Corporate Legal Department, the successful candidate will be part of an experienced, collaborative and supportive legal team. In addition to working with senior business executives, this attorney will work closely with all other commercial and legal experts within Sony Pictures, including marketing, music, production, intellectual property, business development, privacy, digital security, government affairs, litigation, tax, antitrust and labor.
The successful candidate will have outstanding academic credentials and a minimum of 4 years of M&A transactional experience with a major law firm. Additional experience with the media, entertainment and/or technology industries is preferred. Valuable areas of expertise include international transactions, venture capital investments, commercial transactions, intellectual property licensing and privacy.
Requirements:
• At least 4 years' M&A transactional experience with a major law firm; additional experience in entertainment and new media is strongly preferred
• JD & Member of the California Bar
• Excellent negotiation and drafting skills
• Able to work both independently and as a team player
• Assertive, detail-oriented, and able to accommodate tight deadlines
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
