The Role – 12 month paid intern placement from July 2020:
SPE's Strategic Sourcing and Procurement London based team (which is part of a larger global Procurement department based in LA) has an exciting opportunity suited to undergraduate students looking for a year in industry as part of their degree, students who are about to or have recently graduated and are looking for a placement year or those looking to gain entry level experience in this part of the business.
Working with all 3 SPE businesses: (Motion Picture Group, Home Entertainment and TV distribution and TV Networks) the intern will be involved in projects and analysis across the business including other functions such as Finance and Corporate. Key responsibilities will be to support the Procurement team with commercial analysis on external supplier spend, analysing supplier commercial proposals and assisting with PowerPoint presentations. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands on experience providing support to a growing and high performing procurement team, whose results bring tangible value to SPE.
Over the course of the placement you will work on collating and categorising spend across key countries, providing deep-dive analysis on supplier invoices and commercial proposals and translating analysis into stakeholder-friendly presentations. The placement would suit someone who enjoys commercial analysis/data manipulation and distilling findings into easily understandable key points. Although a large element of the role involves analysis to support procurement projects, being able to interact professionally and clearly (both verbally and written) with stakeholders (Business leads), suppliers and the team is also important.
What will you learn on the placement?
The placement will be challenging yet rewarding, and over the course of the placement and through a combination of support and hands on experience, we will aim to give you a solid grounding in the following:
You will acquire a KNOWLEDGE OF:
• European markets (UK, Spain, France, Germany)
• The Entertainment Industry
• Procurement (techniques and methodologies employed at SPE)
• Marketing Procurement category expertise (many of the European projects support the Marketing Procurement category)
• Working with the US Procurement team
You will develop SKILLS IN:
• Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other procurement systems (Filemaker, Smartsheet etc.)
• Managing your own workload/projects
• Commercial /Business understanding
• Procurement and Procurement category management (e.g. nuances of different procurement categories e.g. Marketing, Post-production, Facilities etc.)
You will gain EXPERIENCE OF:
• Working in a major Hollywood Studio
• Working in the growing area of Procurement
• Learning about other functions in the business e.g., Finance, Legal, Marketing, Research etc.
• Providing analysis and support to deliver tangible savings and value to the business
• Interacting with select external suppliers in collaboration with the team
Candidate Requirements:
Whilst there is no prerequisite degree for this placement, it is important that you enjoy analysis and have an ability and passion for numbers yet at the same time can translate analysis into easily digestible messages/findings.
We are therefore looking for candidates who will meet and can demonstrate the following criteria:
• Knowledge and interest in Film and Television
• Excellent analysis and commercial acumen
• Good communication skills – both written and verbal
• Fluent written/spoken English (additional languages (French, German or Spanish) would be desirable, but not required)
• Problem solving - Strong numeracy, with an analytical mind
• Attention to detail, Accuracy
• General Microsoft skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); however, training will be given on other software used by the team if required, e.g. SAP, Filemaker, Smartsheet if needed. Understanding of V-look ups, pivot tables in Excel would be preferred but not essential.
• Ability to quickly grasp new concepts/skills and carry out research (e.g. on companies)
• Ability to work well under pressure including prioritisation of work to meet deadlines
