Executive Director, Copyright
The Executive Director or Vice President of Copyright is responsible for overseeing the administration of all original music composed, owned and/or controlled by Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) for use in and in connection with its productions domestically and internationally, as well as in SPE format shows worldwide. Ultimate responsibility for the successful management of the music copyright staff to ensure copyright processes and accurate data entry into Music Affairs Group administration system. Oversee the preparation and timely submission of music cue sheets to the Performing Rights Organizations.
Responsibility:
• Manages a staff of three. Responsible for the Copyright administration of all original music written and owned/controlled for SPE motion pictures, television series, international productions, acquisitions and marketing.
• Liaise with SPE's worldwide representatives in developing standards of delivery, PRO and LOC registrations.
• Oversee the creation, completion, distribution and administration of music cue sheets for SPE domestic and international film and television productions.
• Oversee delivery of original music assets and editor's music cue sheets for SPE domestic and international film and television productions.
• Assign production projects as appropriate, assuring that projects are positioned for timely completion.
• Participate as a key member in the ongoing development of SPE's internal Music Affairs Group database (MAGIC); review and submit music Post Mortem reports and attend all Post Mortem meetings; handle any special research projects.
• Collaborate with Business Affairs in original music-related questions or problems including assisting in onscreen music issues and/or public domain issues.
• Attend various department meetings and conduct weekly staff meetings.
Education
, Years of Experience, Specialized Knowledge or Skills Required:
• BA/BS in Music, Business Management, Film, TV, etc.
• 7 years of experience preferred.
• Entertainment business experience, preferably with Music Publishing, Copyright Administration, etc.
• Knowledge of U.S. Copyright Law
• Experienced in managing, leading and mentoring a team.
• Experienced in setting timelines and priorities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
• Attention to detail, efficient and highly organized.
• Strong communication skills.
• Savvy with technology and database management
