Director, Creative Development - Worldwide Acquisitions
SPWA's Director, Creative Development, is a unique opportunity to operate as a creative executive working on a variety of content from wide theatrical releases, to specialty platform releases to non-theatrical multi-platform releases, in a fast-paced, high performing environment.
Requirements:
• Ability to identify projects with artistic and commercial potential with a keen understanding of tone and genre, and the underlying structure of film narrative
• An in-depth knowledge of the global market for films and of changing audience tastes
• Ability to read screenplays, analyze their strengths and weaknesses, and prepare clear story/development notes to help screenwriters address potential issues or recommended improvements during the development process
• An understanding of how to analytically review dailies and cuts of films in order prepare editorial notes
• An ability to successfully search out new talent, and cultivate creative relationships with screenwriters, directors, producers, actors and talent reps
• Candidate needs to have a strong grasp of the emotional impact different types of films have on various audiences
Qualifications:
• Candidate must be experienced with the full lifecycle of feature development
• Minimum of 3 years experience in the development arena and demonstrated comfort working across genres
• Experience in story structure with proven skills providing coverage and notes through the production lifecycle
• Extensive network in entertainment industry ranging from agents, writers, directors, etc with an understanding of key players in the development space
• Working knowledge of current and up-and-coming writers, filmmakers and talent
