The Senior Director, Insights Reporting will be responsible for overseeing the Central Sales Analytics & Reporting team that provides streaming and sales information and analysis to leadership within the US Sales department, the Global Digital Business and each of Sony Music's US labels. The candidate will also serve as the technical data lead providing subject matter expertise and guidance across the broader Insights Reporting team. The ideal candidate will have a data analyst background capable of owning complex data processes while also being capable of producing insightful business analysis for senior audiences.
Responsibilities
• Oversee the Central Sales & Analytics team as part of the broader Insights Reporting team
• Lead a team of analysts in the development of the next generation of reports, dashboards, processes and methodologies for assessing track, album and artist performance that can be utilized across all labels
• Oversee the on-going production of daily and weekly reports, tools and dashboards provided to the US labels while implementing efficiency gaining enhancements and ever evolving improvements
• Serve as the technical data lead for the broader Insights Reporting team providing subject matter expertise on Sony Music’s data infrastructure and keeping the team on the cutting edge of business intelligence by suggesting new ways to organize, analyze, visualize, and present information
• Lead efforts to collect valuable external data points through public API’s and web scraping as needed to supplement existing internal data
• Lead a team of analysts in performing deep dive analyses on the latest trends across the music industry, competitors, digital streaming partners, and consumer behavior to answer business critical questions posed by senior leaders of US Sales, the Global Digital Business, and the US Labels
• Lead the weekly US Sales meeting to review Sony and music industry trends and share deep dive analyses
• Continually monitor label and competitive market share shifts, understand driving forces behind changes, and identify opportunities to grow share and revenues
• Maintain relationship with Nielsen and gain expertise in their data nuances
• Understand internal data sources and systems to ensure data integrity and report accuracy
• Interact with IT to resolve technical issues and implement enhancements to sales reporting systems
Qualifications
• Minimum 10 years of experience working with data
• Expertise working with relational databases and writing complex SQL
• Extensive experience with Alteryx
• Experience with Python, JavaScript or other analytical programming languages
• Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau
• Advanced knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills – ability to identify trends in large datasets, display creativity in problem-solving, and generate new ideas
• Strong ability to communicate insights to label executives and key stakeholders – orally, in writing, and in presentations
• Possess a “customer service” mentality to ensure the needs of labels and senior management are met in a timely and satisfactory manner
• Music industry experience preferred with an understanding of how the music business operates and the evolving streaming landscape
• Passion for music and desire to build a career in the industry
