Responsibilities
• Support Sony Music Entertainment’s (SME) strategic PR planning efforts together with the Head of Corporate Communications
• Serve as a spokesperson for SME’s business, trade and consumer activities in the U.S. in concert with SME’s Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications
• Develop and implement strategic trade and business media relations plans engaging with mainstream and social media contacts and platforms to build awareness and understanding among key stakeholders of SME’s business strategies and brand positioning
• Develop and cultivate close relationships with key editors, journalists and influencers at business, trade and consumer outlets
• Regularly develop and pitch story and thought leadership ideas aligning with company goals with a deep understanding of the needs and profiles of key media outlets
• Develop internal communications strategies and activities in coordination with the Head of Corporate Communications and Human Resources division, to connect key internal stakeholders and employees across the company
• Proactively engage with senior management to develop high quality, creatively-written material for internal and external distribution including as part of thought leadership initiatives and in support of other company needs including internal communications
• Serve as a first point of distribution for breaking news and media, entertainment and digital media trends
Qualifications
• 8-10 years of professional experience in a communications role
• Bachelor degree; or the equivalent combination of education and experience
• Proven strategic communications skills and thought leadership experience
• Excellent writing skills with the ability to draft and package top-notch content – including press releases, speeches, op-eds, internal communications and presentations - on rapid deadlines
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
• Strong media relationships with business and trade outlets
• Proven ability to develop and manage strong working relationships with senior executives
• Proven experience working across trade and business PR within the entertainment environment
• Excellent leadership and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to motivate and lead a team
• Exhibit professionalism and skills necessary to establish and maintain a high level of credibility and diplomatically work a crisis and provide council and strategic guidance to senior management
• Must demonstrate sound judgment
• Very strong and effective team player – position requires daily collaboration with internal and external partners globally
• Flexibility to work across multiple time zones as required
