Full Time Job
This role is responsible for the review, negotiation and drafting of contracts for artists and all artist related matters, new labels, joint ventures, production deals, consulting deals, and new media agreements for the label, as well as providing ongoing counsel to internal departments on these deals.
Responsibilities
• Structure proposals and negotiate and draft a variety of music and entertainment-related agreements, including recording, label, licensing, producer/mixer, soundtrack, termination/release, and merchandising for RCA Records. Draft related approval memos and contract summaries.
• Provide advice and counsel to senior management, A&R, marketing, creative services, sales, promotion, royalties, finance, international and other departments regarding business and legal issues and strategy.
• Work with A&R administration regarding contractual budgets, monitoring recording costs and approving payments.
• Review artwork, label copy, videos, advertising and other marketing and promotional materials and initiatives.
• Identify and analyze potential risks related to label's distribution of content and other business activities.
• Investigate, analyze and respond to a variety of claims, including copyright, audit, breach of contract, publicity and trademark, and work with the corporate legal department to develop litigation strategies.
Qualifications
• Member of New York Bar in good standing.
• JD from a top-ranked law school and strong legal background in areas of the law applicable to the music business, (e.g., copyright, contracts, trademark, and licensing).
• Minimum of 6 years of legal experience, including drafting music related agreements, in a prominent entertainment company or law practice.
• Superior negotiating, drafting and communication skills.
• General problem-solving skills, business acumen, organization, and focus on detail.
• Creative self-starter with ability to multi-task and thrive in fast-paced environment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office with a broad knowledge of the digital landscape.
