The Premium Content Group at Sony Music develops, finances and produces films and series involving our global roster. You will be working with exciting new artists and iconic catalog artists across our 125-year history.
As Director, Rights Administration – Film & TV, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing rights and clearances related to Sony Music Entertainment's film and television production slate and library. This position will support the Business Administration, Sales, and Distribution teams with rights management, contract administration, generating avails for sales solicitation, and license tracking. You will help ensure projects are planned and executed in line with organizational objectives to mitigate legal risks, deliver value to artists and consumers, and maximize growth and profitability.

What you'll do:
• Work with legal, copyright, and sales teams to identify and track worldwide film and television distribution rights for theatrical, non-theatrical, television, home video, VOD and streaming.
• Develop and maintain the company's film rights management system for past, current, and future productions, which includes the following tasks: create master list of rights and identify conflicts, input all sales data including product details and key metadata, create reporting tools to improve visibility to rights and avails data needed to support sales and all SME distribution models.
• Interface with Sony Music labels globally and the operations team to track music rights and clearance statuses, resolve potential rights issues and identify unexploited rights and windows.
• Track status of contracts including option rights, expirations, amendments, and payments; communicate regular status updates to finance, legal, operations, and sales teams.
• Review acquisition, production, and distribution agreements to determine and track Sony Music Entertainment's distribution rights and respective holdbacks.
• Oversee and review rights documents (e.g. clearance bibles) related to receipt and delivery of film and television content.
• Explore copyright protection services and tools for anti-piracy monitoring and content takedowns.
Who you are:
• Undergraduate degree required.
• Advanced knowledge of the film and music industry, entertainment law and/or intellectual property preferred.
• Minimum 7-10 years previous work experience in a Film/TV rights management capacity working in content licensing, digital media or top-tier management consulting with media, entertainment, or technology companies; international experience is a plus.
• Understanding of Film/TV rights and IP management software, systems and tools is preferred.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams & SharePoint.
• Very good negotiator with strong business acumen, strategic thinking, great attention to detail with a keen eye for data and systems improvements.
• Excellent problem-solving, combined with outstanding analytical skills, creativity and efficiency.
• Great verbal and written communications skills combined with interpersonal skills working across multiple cultures.
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task, problem solve and work well under pressure.
