The Director, Publicity for Arista will lead Arista’s publicity efforts by actively promoting artists and creating, implementing and managing results-oriented full scope publicity campaigns. The Director, Publicity will report jointly to the CEO, Arista Records and the SVP, International A&R.

Responsibilities
• Interface with colleagues on the marketing, digital, A&R and sales teams to formulate big-picture objectives and goals for each artist.
• Lead online (and offline) publicity outreach for Arista Records’ artists.
• Build, cultivate and manage relationships with “Digital” PR list including editors, influential bloggers, message board posters/administrators and other decision makers relevant to team’s artists. Examples of publications would be:
• Music enthusiast sites: e.g., Pitchfork, BrooklynVegan, Stereogum
• Online newsmagazines: e.g., Slate, Salon, HuffingtonPost
• Entertainment, pop culture and gossip blogs
• Television station and program websites (when artist makes appearance on show)
• Newspaper and magazine websites
• Politics blogs where relevant
• Podcasters
• Write and edit press releases, bios, media alerts, PSAs, press kit contents, pitch letters, digital content and other materials.
• Partner with other team members to build and maintain publicity database and Arista’s relationship with all music sites.
• Develop and manage relationships with key decision-makers at all publications.
• Work with external partners to create digital press kits (digital press releases, audio/video files, approved images, calls-to-action, links) for artists and album release events (albums, singles, DVDs, tours, etc).
• Work with Digital Marketing team on grassroots artist promotion.
• Successfully manage external marketing and public relations agencies as needed for high return on investment.
• Coordinate and cover press events and appearances as requested (i.e. photo shoots, release parties, television appearances, showcases, award shows, red carpets, etc.).
• Coordinate logistics of appearances, interviews, showcases, album releases parties and events - including travel (airfare, hotels, ground transportation, etc.) as needed.
• Coordinate artist activities and press schedules with other label departments, tour manager, tour promoter, venue, etc.
• Respond to daily digital media inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
• Manage expenses to ensure budgets remain within desired projections. Plan budgets in accordance to events and vice versa.
Qualifications
• At least 4 years Publicity experience in the music industry required.
• Experience pitching, booking and covering national and local media interviews necessary.
• Existing contacts and experience in press, marketing and digital.
• Must have previous experience developing and producing press conferences and events.
• Prior experience writing press releases and assembling press materials.
• Thorough knowledge of brand, media and digital media.
• Ability to create consumer marketing plans for each artist and execute on those plans.
• Must have prior experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Must have very strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Calm, positive, and professional demeanor.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with all types of personalities including prior experience dealing with executives, talent and senior media members.
• Strong problem solving and crisis management skills, resourcefulness, self-confidence and a sense of humor.
• Must be highly organized and capable of developing and keeping to a project timeline.
• Successful candidate will possess a positive attitude, an eagerness to learn and a demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast paced work environment while juggling multiple tasks and priorities.
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Public Relations, Communications or related field.
• Passion for music and pop culture.
