Sony Music requires a meticulous and trustworthy person to take on the role of Media Library Archives Coordinator. The position will involve cataloguing and preservation of physical and digital assets, and generation and maintenance of related metadata. Older classical and popular recordings will be likely areas of emphasis.
Responsibilities
• Research using the company’s databases and other resources to find – and corroborate and improve data for – existing assets
• Data input accurate and complete metadata for newly surfaced assets (digital and physical) in need of descriptive detail
• Work closely with labels and studios to identify and deliver assets for emerging, time-sensitive projects requiring access to archival assets
• Work with the Archives team to verify and capture born-digital assets, and new transfers from physical assets, into a long term storage environment
• Log in and lend out physical assets to authorized users and to Archives shelves using proprietary Sony asset database
Qualifications
• Required skills are diligence, trustworthiness, a meticulous eye for detail, and a baseline interest in and awareness of historic audio and audiovisual recording techniques
• Prior experience with (but not limited to): media archives data entry or management; recording studio engineering or clerical support; frontline label A&R administration
• Ability to type briskly and accurately
• Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel will be needed
• Prior experience with inventory database tools is a plus
• Prior classical music knowledge is not necessary but this role will give significant support to Sony’s Masterworks classical label, so a willingness to gain fluency in discussing that repertoire is key
• Attention to detail with the ability to consistently detect the sometimes subtle cues that help identify the purpose and content of a given archival media asset
• The ability to lift packed boxes weighing in excess of thirty pounds is not a requirement, but a substantial amount of lifting, packing, and shelving are a part of the department’s overall mission
