The Premium Content Group at Sony Music develops, finances and produces films and series involving our global roster. You will be working with exciting new artists and iconic catalog artists across our 125-year history.
We are seeking an experienced executive to oversee the development of films and series made by or about our most iconic artists, with a heavy emphasis on documentary features and docuseries. This key executive will also play a role in developing our Podcast content into documentary film and TV projects.
This is an exciting opportunity to work side-by-side with the best creators in music and film whose art is changing the world.
What you'll do:
Take the lead on developing and packaging projects, including: identifying and approaching potential production partners and director candidates, overseeing the creation of development and/or sales materials, preparing pitches, and ensuring materials are delivered on time and on budget.
Oversee and supervise film production, once project has been greenlit and production begins.
Proactively identify potential film and TV projects on behalf of Sony Music's artists and labels; track, assess and respond to project submissions from 3rd parties.
Liaise with artist management and internal A&R teams to understand the story each artist wants to tell, as well as other considerations, such as timing, album releases, tour plans, access to archive material, etc.
Present production company and/or director options to Premium Content executives, artist management, label executives, and other stakeholders for input and approval.
Support pre-production activities, including budgeting and scheduling, and work closely with film teams to provide creative oversight, feedback and support.
Create centralized tools and establish best practices in collaboration with other film and TV development executives throughout the Sony Music group, including those working on behalf of Sony Music's labels and regional offices.
Prepare artist and project overview / pitch documents to summarize artist career highlights, audience size, and unique selling points for each project.
Liaise with Global Podcast Division to identify relevant podcasts that can be developed into TV or film.
Who you are:
10+ years experience in documentary film development and production.
Established relationships with top-tier documentary production companies.
Extensive knowledge of documentary and narrative film directors; direct relationships with filmmakers, as well as strong agency connections.
Familiarity with production tax incentives a plus.
Relationships with key film festivals a plus.
Must be an avid music fan across all genres.
Awareness of the podcast market required.
Excellent verbal communication and PowerPoint skills.
