Full Time Paid Internship
2018 Fall Internship- Communications (Smithsonian Channel)
Our fall intern will strengthen his/her written and oral communication skills and gain invaluable experience in pitching national and local press for programming on Smithsonian Channel and Smithsonian Earth.
• Help with program publicity for Channel and Earth Q3 and Q4 premieres/launches
• Build out and maintain press list
• Screen shows, pull clips, gather additional assets for pitching
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Compile niche press lists
• Screen shows and pull clips for press
• Help pitch out our linear shows to local outlets and focus on digital series/Smithsonian Earth
• Help compile assets for shows when pitching & draft press releases
• Pull together press clips for weekly clip packet
• Build and maintain award lists and mark deadlines for entry for Channel executives
Qualifications:
Required:
• Current undergraduate student (rising junior or above)
• Interest in the Cable/Entertainment Industry
• 2.5 GPA or above
• Submission of cover letter- required
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
• Superior communication and interpersonal skills
• Exceptional attention to detail
• Ability to work at least 20 hours/week from September- December
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment under deadlines
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Able to provide administrative suppose as needed
Preferred:
• Strong writing skills
• Social Media Skills
• Photo editing/ photoshop skills
• Familiarity with Google Products
• Knowledge and understanding of digital marketing strategies
• Cable television experience a plus
• Active participation in extracurricular activities; clubs; and/or associations. Leadership positions while maintaining an above average GPA, a plus
• Prior internship experience in a related field, a plus
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
• Working knowledge of television industry and national/local NY press outlets
• Interest in non-fiction/documentary filmmaking a plus
