Simon & Schuster is seeking a Director, Human Resources to join the NYC-based team in providing practical and strategic advice on a wide variety of areas to improve the staff's engagement, performance, and overall experience.
The Director, Human Resources will specifically focus on the following duties which will include, but are not limited to:
• Serving as the Human Resources Business Partner, connecting with employees and serving as a resource by providing real-time advice and counseling and assessing employee engagement and morale.
• Serving as an internal resource to optimally coach and build on leadership goals for the various imprints/divisions/departments.
• Building trust and improving employee engagement; supporting company mission, values and culture in ways that support strategic objectives.
• Collaborating with our various internal HR partners on initiatives such as performance management, talent acquisition, learning and development, and other training tools and resources (i.e., leadership training, mitigating bias, career pathing, etc.).
• Fielding and resolving general performance management issues and employee relations matters such as replacements/terminations, performance issues, and incident-based behavioral concerns.
• In partnership with the VP HR, provide counsel to people leaders and employees on employee relations matters, evaluate underlying issues, brainstorm solutions, document process, follow-up as needed, and advise management as necessary.
• At the direction of the VP HR, partner with Labor Relations on any collective bargaining agreement related matters and Employment Law as necessary.
• Partner with VP HR and other team member to plan and roll out ongoing training sessions, as well as support compliance with mandatory training (content development, scheduling, resources)
• Help project manage, curate and develop content for key programs for our L&D initiatives (e.g., mentor program, network learning sessions); manage knowledge library for resources
• Manage and support key events and recognition moments to help create a vibrant, inclusive culture
Qualifications:
• 7 years of HRBP/Employee Relations experience, preferably in a publishing or media company.
• Demonstrable track record of building trust and respect quickly in environments unfamiliar with HR.
• Able to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment where time is of the essence.
• A concentration in learning and development is a plus
• SHRM-CP or PHR Certification a plus
• Empathetic, client service-oriented approach with the ability to effectively interact with talent at all levels of the organization and maintain strict confidentiality
• Highly effective written and verbal communication skills necessary
• Strong technology skills, particularly with Excel and an ability to learn and navigate new systems to build reports
