Full Time Unpaid Internship
General Description:The WNBA Seattle Storm Sports Performance team is seeking a qualified and highly motivated Nutrition intern for the upcoming 2018 season. While the intern position is UNPAID, it is an excellent opportunity to accrue hours and experience working directly with professional female athletes in-season. The nutrition intern will be an integral part of the sports performance team in helping to educate and facilitate the athletes regarding hydration, meal planning, meal/snack timing, and overall nutrition/energy system needs. This internship offers a unique opportunity in that Dr. Susan Kleiner will be the primary nutrition consultant and will be working with the Sports Performance team in the development of this nutrition program. Together we will be helping players create positive nutrition habits/knowledge to facilitate better overall health and performance.
Dates of Needed Availability: Available from April 15 – Through August/September, no later than Sept. 20 (date depends on playoffs)
Hours will be kept to approximately 20/week as a maximum, and have a fair degree of flexibility.
Preferred Minimum Qualifications:
• Currently 2nd year Master's student in Nutrition
• Studies in Sports Performance Nutrition
• Passionate about working with athletes
Responsibilities:
• Facilitating Dr. Kleiner with any nutrition related testing (i.e. sweat/hydration testing)
• Assist in tracking of hydration (i.e. tracking water bottles to make sure players are meeting their hydration numbers from the sweat test)
• Ensuring locker room snacks are available and being utilized appropriately
• Assisting Dr. Kleiner with player check-ins regarding fueling/hydration timing pre-practice, intra-practice, and post-practice
• Helping athletes learn to plan, shop, and prep easy/healthy meals, and generally develop good nutrition habits, particularly for those times when they are on the road traveling.
