Are you an avid anime fan?
Would you like to become a subtitle translator/editor and work with the latest anime?
We are looking for a local Japanese to English translator/editor who will proof (and occasionally translate) all types of media-related content. Work will primarily involve the subtitling medium for major studios, in addition to working with text, website, menu, and other mediums. Project content mainly consist of anime or Japanese movies and dramas. This is an in-house position, however, freelance positions are available as well if inquired.
The successful applicant will be able to do the following:
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Translate and edit subtitles from Japanese to English
Perform quality control for existing translations
Research terminology to ensure accuracy of translations
Create an English template for other languages
Edit, retime subtitles to new media while meeting demanding deadlines
Able to apply client-specific protocols as needed and adhere to all special instructions
Perform other duties as assigned
Must be able to demonstrate:
Excellent command of Japanese and English, as well as slang and colloquial expressions
Available to work 25-40 hours per week
Strong knowledge of the Japanese culture.
Experience in tasks requiring extreme accuracy
Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
Excellent computer skills; film editing software a plus
Qualifications and Experience
Bilingual in both Japanese and English (ability to read a Japanese newspaper with no difficulty)
Must be located in greater Los Angeles area
An associate's degree (A. A.) or Bachelor's degree in language or related field
Previous localization and/or subtitle experience preferred but not required
