SDI Media is currently seeking a Film Transcription and Annotation Writer to create English-language dubbing and subtitle scripts for American feature films. The dubbing and subtitle scripts will be used by translators and laboratories around the world to ready a feature for international theatrical release. This position reports to the Theatrical Director.
Please note that this is not a screen writing job.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities
• Create scripts for voice-dubbing production by identifying speakers and transcribing English dialogue and all other vocal utterances.
• Annotate colloquialisms, slang, idioms, and technical jargon, in addition to historical, entertainment or other references to ensure correct translation by linguists around the world. Research cultural, social and other types of obscure references, as necessary.
• Using SDI's proprietary video software, create correctly timed English dubbing cues and subtitles for feature films, trailers, etc.
• Review dialogue (dubbing) lists and subtitle lists for accuracy.
• Revise dubbing and subtitle lists to reflect changes made to new versions of films as they progress through the post-production process.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Must be able to demonstrate:
• Excellent communication skills.
• Very high attention to detail when dealing with issues of language and grammar.
• Ability to quickly grasp complex and technical subject matters.
• Ability to maintain poise under pressure and tight deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and on a tight-knit team.
• Good time management skills.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, History or similar preferred.
• Excellent command of the English language.
• Demonstrated ability to recognize and extract critical data and information from visual media and written materials and documents.
• Excellent knowledge of American history and culture (including pop culture).
• Understanding of and curiosity about world cultures and languages.
• Fluency in another language a plus.
• General computer skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and remain calm under pressure, adhere to deadlines, execute tasks and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Overtime and weekend hours required, when needed.
• Must live in the Los Angeles area.
