SCAD seeks an Associate Chair of Visual Effects to help create a clear vision for the visual effects program at SCAD Atlanta.
Visual effects artists are masters of illusion, creating believable images that are impossible or impractical to shoot in the real world. The SCAD visual effects program prepares students to make their own incredible dreams a reality. In this role, you will develop curriculum and evaluate professors within the department through class observations, review of student evaluations, service and professional development, and contributions to the departmental goals.
The associate chair oversees the departmental budget and provides development opportunities for professors. In addition to assisting with daily administration of the visual effects department, you will foster interdepartmental collaboration and continue to enhance the reputation of the SCAD visual effects department in academic and professional circles. You will also teach classes in your area of expertise and cultivate guest lists of top artists and mentors in your network.
The ideal candidate possesses a clear understanding of the latest industry-used software tools, 3D lighting and rendering, programming, and integrated shell scripting for visual effects. This includes embedded MEL and Python languages, shader writing, combining multipass CG images, and rendering with Maya, Houdini, and Unreal. Familiarity with Solaris (USD), procedural modeling, and virtual production is preferred.
One of the fastest growing cities in the U.S., Atlanta provides professionals an ideal environment in which to live, work, and play. Located in the heart of Midtown, SCAD Atlanta is home to a dynamic cultural landscape that includes theaters, museums, fine art galleries, bustling shops, and countless green spaces, including Piedmont Park and Atlanta's famed BeltLine. The capital of the New South, Atlanta provides both southern charm and the ebb and flow of an alpha city.
Requirements
- Terminal degree in visual effects or a related field
- University-level teaching experience preferred
