Scene Shop Intern
Description: The intern will report directly to the Technical Director. Interns will have the opportunity to engage in the process of building a show from start to finish. Great position for students or graduates seeking careers in Technical Direction or Technical Theatre.
Learning Opportunities in this position:
• Making Theatre happen on Budget
• How to Read Scenic Draftings
• Hands-On Theatrical Scene Shop Building Experience
• Training in a variety of construction techniques- wood working, welding, sculpting, millwork and fabrication. faux finish painting , rigging , automation and special effects
• Proper Set Construction, Load-In & Strike Safety Principles
Duties Include but not limited to:
• Help with Mainstage Strikes and Load-Ins
• Sandbox Load-In and Strike
• Regular Scene Shop Hours to Assist with Building and Painting
• Assist with Shop and Backstage Organization + Tool Maintenance
• Attend Production Meetings, Table Reads and Final Dress Rehearsals
• Assist Technical Director with Safety Tasks in Shop and Backstage during Load-Ins
• Assist with Repairs, Replacements, etc to Maintain Running Show
• Assist Event Staff with Opening Nights and Other Events as Needed
Special Requirements:
• Must have reliable transportation to and from off-site scene shop in Hayward, CA
• Must also be available to work at our Theatre Venue in San Francisco
• Theatre Major or Minor
• Must be able to safely lift and move 40lbs
• Must be comfortable working on ladders
• Proper shop attire is required. This includes pants, closed toed rubber soled shoes (safety shoes recommended but not required) no loose fitting clothes and long hair should be tied up. (a set of paint clothes is recommended
