Title: Director of Payroll
Reports To: Vice President, Finance
Department: Finance
Status: Full-Time/Exempt
Position Summary:
The San Francisco Giants are seeking an experienced, hands on, Director of Payroll. Responsibilities include processing two semi-monthly payrolls for all staff including front office, seasonal, retail, and both minor and major league players and ensuring that payroll is prepared within normal deadlines and in compliance with all federal, local and state regulations.
Position Responsibilities:
• Experience in processing, administering and reconciling multi-state payroll using Workday
• Subject matter expert in Workday payroll; knowledgeable in Workday payroll configuration, trouble shooting, reporting and production support
• Ensures that payroll is reconciled and processed accurately and in a timely manner
• Experience with payroll processing for various employee populations (e.g., full time, seasonal employees)
• Working experience of payroll tax at the federal, state and local levels
• Provides excellent customer service and respond in a timely manner to employee issues and inquiries regarding payroll matters
• Manages and ensures disbursement of multi-state payroll to employees and players consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws
• Manages regular preparation of relevant management reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc).
• Critical review and analysis of current payroll and tax procedures in order to recommend and implement changes leading to best-practice operations
Knowledge and Skills:
• 10 years of multi-state payroll experience with excellent knowledge of payroll practices and procedures.
• BS/BA Degree in Business Administration or related field desired. CPP Certification preferred
• Extensive knowledge of Excel required
• Experience with taxation and ability to use analysis to resolve complex payroll and accounting issues.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and a proven ability to handle confidential matters and information. Must adhere to the highest ethical standards
• Ability to perform at the highest level in a deadline driven environment, utilizing extensive problem solving and decision-making skills and unwavering attention to detail
• Working knowledge of accounting principles with the ability to identify and resolve complex problems under tight time constraints
• Understand, interpret, and ensure compliance with payroll related items in union contracts
• Working experience of payroll tax at the federal, state and local levels
• Highly organized and a team player
