Research Assistant (Residuals Claims)

Responsibilities
What You’ll Do
POSITION PURPOSE:
To assist the Residuals Claims Business Representatives as claims are assigned to pursue residuals due for theatrical, television and new media pictures/series where the responsible party is an independent producer. The Research Assistant will locate and review the signatory and any financial assurances documents, as well as use publicly available information to research additional parties responsible for paying delinquent residuals. Based on such information the Research Assistant will prepare an initial summary of all parties attached to independent productions, with access to underlying documents and including applicable Producer/Distributor contact information, for review by the Business Representatives and Claims Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Reviews signatory and financial assurances documents for productions where an Independent Producer is signatory.
• Cross-references distribution activity to documents on file and publicly available information.
• Compiles current information for entities responsible for residuals obligations.
• Prepares reports summarizing findings, including current addresses and contact information, as well as any proper notice obligations in preparation for assignment to business reps filing claims against independent producers.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Proficiency in using MS Office and Google Suite.
• Ability to review legal documents and determine required documentation.
• Demonstrate effective skills in the use of PC applications: Strong proficiency in Excel, LexisNexis, internet search engines, etc.
• High level of attention to detail, analytical skills, critical thinking, and multi-tasking.
• Ability to take initiative, work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to adapt to a fast paced environment.
• Ability to be flexible.
• Must be able to communicate effectively in English; in both verbal and written form.
• Able to organize, prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks under daily deadlines.
• Able to work under pressure.
• Capable of taking direction from more than one supervisor.
• Superlative interpersonal skills: Excellent phone manners. High degree of patience and tact. Must be able to cultivate respectful, strategic and collaborative relationships with people from diverse backgrounds both internally and externally.
• Have an understanding and awareness of worker rights impacting SAG-AFTRA members.

• Must be able to work in a challenging environment where constructive feedback from others is encouraged.
• Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined by SAG-AFTRA’s attendance policy.
• Must be available and willing to work extended hours per day or per week, including weekends, as SAG-AFTRA determines is necessary to meet its business needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
and/or Experience:
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Research experience preferred.
• Basic understanding of residuals preferred
TESTING REQUIREMENTS:
• Basic skills- math, spelling, grammar and filing – passing score: 76%
• Word and Excel tests; basic, intermediate & advanced– passing score: 76%
• Typing 35 WPM
• Writing test
