Assistant Claims Manager (Residuals Claims)

Responsibilities
What You’ll Do
Manage the intake, response and assignment of inquiries related to residuals obligations associated with the exhibition of SAG-AFTRA covered theatrical, television and new media productions. Manage and direct the activities and workload of the department’s administrative staff. Provide support throughout the department and the union with regard to contract interpretation on residuals topics and all applicable residuals formulas.

• Supervise and direct the handling of member inquiries and assignment of claims, using existing monitoring resources, external sources, communications and documentation for assignment of claims to Business Representatives.
• Manage the department’s administrative staff including facilitating establishment goals, objectives and activities, ongoing training and development, team and individual meetings, tracking and evaluating time attendance records, coverage and schedule, coaching, addressing staff conduct and performance evaluations, as well as recruitment and hiring of new staff as circumstances dictate
• Assist in identifying parties responsible for curing delinquencies and the residuals formulas applicable to exhibition of SAG-AFTRA covered productions. Support business representatives in handling claims, as circumstances dictate.
• Assist in providing guidance/contractual interpretations to inquiring companies, members and the union, including the Contact Center, Residuals Processing, Entertainment Contracts and Financial Assurances Compliance, with regard to residuals topics under collectively bargained and promulgated current SAG-AFTRA and predecessor SAG and AFTRA agreements.
• Perform other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.

• Able to read, comprehend and interpret contracts, and explain them to others
• Ability to supervise staff/assign work and collaborate across departments with supervisors and staff.
• Detail oriented, with excellent time management skills and able to prioritize, organize and coordinate multiple tasks under daily deadlines.
• Capable of taking direction from more than one supervisor.
• Able to quickly learn new complex material and distill meaningful information from various sources to discern that which is most critical.
• Able to handle difficult situations in a calm and professional manner and maintain and inspire a team approach.
• Proficient in PC applications and Internet-based systems and mathematical knowledge.
• Strong communication skills in English, both oral and written.
• Able to use sound judgment, discretion, and maintain confidentiality in a challenging environment where constructive feedback from others is encouraged.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
and/or Experience:
• College degree and/or paralegal certificate required.
• Working knowledge of union residuals provisions and reporting obligations required.
• Experience with an extremely high volume workload and challenging customer service preferred.
• Experience enforcing collectively bargained residuals provisions and working with performer contracts preferred.
