Title: Assistant Athletic Trainer/Performance Therapist
Department: Basketball Operations
Reports To: Head Athletic Trainer
Summary
The Assistant Athletic Trainer/Performance Therapist will assist in the day-to-day operation of the training room, and will provide support to Kings' players alongside the Head Athletic Trainer & Head of Reconditioning. As a key member of the health and performance team, they will share a progressive mindset, and a commitment to a collaborative approach.
This role includes, but is not limited to: a) preparation of players for practices and games, b) delivery of first aid and acute injury/illness care, c) assistance with development and implementation of treatment and reconditioning plans, d) maintenance of proper medical, injury and treatment records, and, d) execution of a variety of research and administrative tasks
Responsibilities & Expectations:
• Perform manual therapy, and other treatment procedures on players, as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer or the Head of Reconditioning
• Assist with scheduling physicals and other medical appointments for players and staff, and coordination of medications, under the guidance and supervision of the team doctor
• Assist with player health and performance assessments at regular intervals throughout the year
• Assist with reconditioning of injured athletes
• Assist with ordering and organization of medical supplies, and management of inventory throughout the season
• Oversee day-to-day organization and maintenance of athletic training room(s)
• Assist with a variety of research, data, and administrative projects to support the advancement of player care
• Travel as necessary (during off-season) to provide medical and/or reconditioning services to players
• Communicate transparently, and professionally (written and verbal) in sharing relevant information with the Health & Performance Team
• Demonstrate pace and professionalism at all times, and in all environments (with players, coaches, staff, management, and fans)
• Demonstrate a growth mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master's degree in Athletic Training, Kinesiology or Exercise Science
• Minimum 3 years of experience in an elite sport environment
• Demonstrated success working in an interdisciplinary health and performance team
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Competency in Microsoft Office, and the NBA's Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system
• Certification by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC)
• State Athletic Training Licensure
• Current CPR, AED, and first aid training
Preferred Qualifications:
• Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT)
• Professional team sport experience
Other:
• The position requires unconventional hours and regular travel both in and out of season, and frequent work outside of normal business hours to ensure all deadlines and responsibilities are met.
