Analyst
The Sacramento Kings seek an Analyst to contribute to the development of cutting-edge basketball analytics systems. The position will be responsible for supporting the development of data infrastructure, statistical models, and communication tools. The position will require collaboration with the entire analytics group, and Kings' basketball operations more broadly.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain statistical models in support of the Kings' analytics needs.
• Work with numerous data sources to solve applied basketball and sports science problems.
• Conduct ad-hoc analyses and reporting as required.
• Create and maintain data infrastructure.
• Collaborate with members of the Kings analytics group to develop best practices for modeling, visualizing, and communicating basketball data.
• Other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in statistics, computer science, or equivalent professional experience required. Master's degree or PhD a plus.
• Experience with numerous statistical modeling techniques, including regression, generalized linear models, missing data, and machine learning methods.
• Experience with reporting and communication tools, such as (R)Markdown, Shiny, and/or Jupyter notebooks.
• Demonstrated ability to successfully design and implement statistical and machine learning models in R and/or Python.
• Experience with SQL and relational databases.
• Experience creating and maintaining data infrastructure is a plus.
• The ability to organize and manage multi-stage projects while maintaining an acute attention to detail, work independently and under tight deadlines, and relate to and communicate effectively with people of varied backgrounds (programmers, analysts, outside data vendors, other front office members) required.
• Knowledge in one or more of the areas of sport science or basketball analytics is a plus.
• Experience with sport science data (load monitoring, medical, etc.) or basketball data (PBP, tracking data, Synergy, Second Spectrum) a plus.
• Ability to work evening, weekend and holiday hours (as dictated by the basketball calendar) required.
• Willingness and ability to relocate to Sacramento required.
