Rooftop Films is a New York based non-profit organization whose mission is to engage and inspire diverse communities by showing movies in outdoor locations, helping filmmakers to produce new films, and renting equipment at low-cost to artists and non-profits.
Rooftop Films is seeking interns for the Fall of 2019. We welcome students finishing their 1st year of college (or age equivalent) or above and all graduate students. Applications are due no later than August 26th, 2019.
Internships are not paid, but Rooftop Films' staff will work with your school for internship credit. Applicants are encouraged to check their school's internship or field work credit requirements before applying.
Please note: our offices are on the border of Park Slope and Gowanus, near the R, F and G trains in Brooklyn.
Our Festival Programming Internship provides a great opportunity for students studying film, media and/or mass communications: learn how a nonprofit film festival works and see hundreds of great movies.
Interns will work closely with members of the programming team to assist in the pre-screening and rating of film submissions, and will participate in almost every process of the programming process. Interns will also assist with the general operations of Rooftop Films off-season programs and preparation for the Summer Series, including fundraising, marketing and outreach, organizing of off-season screenings and general office and festival work.
Candidates must have excellent organizational and communication skills, and an enthusiasm for film criticism and/or curation. This internship is an excellent opportunity to participate in the programming process of Rooftop Films and a great way to learn the inner workings of a film festival. We welcome undergraduate and graduate students (a passion for film is a must - film production / film studies experience is a plus).
Requirements: Candidates should have good experience working with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel), and Google Docs. Experience with HTML, Airtable, design programs or video editing software is a plus. Interns would be expected to average at least two days a week in the office, but generally the more time that can be committed, the better.
Primary internship tasks will include:
+ Tracking and requesting new independent films
+ Researching other film festivals in order to track trends
+ Organizing and maintaining film databases
+ Pre-screening film festival submissions
+ Contacting and corresponding with filmmakers
+ Organizing off-season film screenings
Assisting with operations of off season projects, including:
+ Marketing/Outreach/Publicity
+ Fundraising/Grant research and administration
+ Writing: including the Rooftop blog, social media, press releases and website content
+ General office work
+ Anything else you might be interested in-we want you to see how we work
