Full Time Job
Join our talented team in a fast-paced and fun Midtown newsroom, expanding your career as a Senior Editor. The ideal candidate has at least five years of experience; expertise in pop music is a bonus, though you’ll be free to cover music of all kinds. This candidate should be able to cover stories of interest to diverse communities with sensitivity and intelligence. Reporting experience, both news and features, is a big plus as well. This is a very active newsroom, and the senior editor will be responsible for posting multiple stories per day, on average, including longform features for both print and digital. The ability to oversee special packages and projects, for both print and digital, is essential; you’ll need serious organization skills as well as the ability to work closely with a team of writers, designers, video producers, photo editors and more.
Responsibilities:
• Edit features, interviews, and criticism on current popular music for both print and digital.
• Manage special projects and packages for both print and digital (such as our Grammy FYC issue, Musicians on Musicians franchise, and more) while working closely with a team of writers, designers, video producers, photo editors and more.
• Oversee reported investigations and scoops.
• Help shape Rolling Stone’s music coverage by tracking upcoming releases and pitching artists to cover.
Requirements:
• 5 years experience, including at least three years editing music and entertainment journalism
• The ability to juggle several stories and projects at the same time and keep a cool head under pressure
• A proven track record of delivering exclusive and high-quality material on deadline
• A deep knowledge of popular music across many genres
• Familiarity with digital news gathering tools
• A commitment to collaborating with colleagues at every level of the organization
We believe our newsroom should represent the communities we cover and our readership. Women, people of color, and LGBTQ candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
