SPY.com is a rapidly growing men's lifestyle and product review website owned by Penske Media Corporation. We help guys find under-the-radar fashion brands, top-shelf whiskey and innovative VR products. Right now, we're looking for a new tech editor to oversee our gadgets vertical and help us cover the most exciting news and product launches in the tech space. This is a great opportunity for an experienced e-commerce writer and journalist looking for more responsibility. The right candidate will be excited to bring new ideas to the table and experiment with strategies to grow our audience in 2022 and beyond.
The tech editor will be responsible for overseeing all content related to smartphones, speakers, headphones, laptops, video consoles and more. Assignments may range from updating product picks in our tech gift guide or producing a hands-on review of an unreleased smart home assistant. The ideal candidate will know the tech gadgets space inside and out and have a keen interest in keeping up with the latest trends and product releases. In addition, the chosen candidate will be responsible for managing a small team of freelancers.
The ideal candidate must understand how to create serviceable content with commerce intent that incorporates general SEO best practices. Most importantly, we're looking for someone who has a passion for all things tech.
Responsibilities:
• Write and produce 5-10 shoppable posts per week, featuring the latest products in the tech space
• Manage team of freelancers to cover breaking product news and produce reviews and shopping guides
• Pitch timely, on brand ideas citing the latest product launches and trends
• Work closely with SEO manager and managing editor to prioritize a mixture of content updates and new assignments while meeting weekly deadlines
• Develop relationships with PR reps in the industry
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 4 years of professional experience covering tech
• The ability to work independently, extremely detail oriented and thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
• Successful and current relationships with key PR people in the market a plus
• An understanding of and interest in the latest tech happenings
• Daily experience working within a CMS
• Proficiency with Photoshop or other image editing software
• Excellent communication skills; verbal and written
